By the schematic you have provided, they say to connect LED to source voltage. You could always add in a low value resistor - maybe 100 ohms in series.

If it is only drawing 1mA when you put 12VDC across the LED terminals, then it is very likely that it already has a resistor built in.

This was my (pre-caffeinated) thought. So does that mean I don't need the resistor at all in this case?
If so, would I be better off wiring it like they outline, so that the LED power is controlled by the button, or would it be better to wire the LED directly to the USB-BOB's 5V and COM, and then turn the LED on from software as a reaction to the button being pressed?

Personally I would test with a different 5VDC source than the BOB to see what the current draw is and see if it is within the parameters in the manual. You don't want to release the ozone or smoke from BOB.

I am ready with connecting the Hardware, will test the functions if the USB extension arrives next week.
Was quite a bit soldering to add a resistor to the LEDs.
By the way TS101 soldering Pen with a 100W Powerbank is perfect for soldering CNC stuff.

Beautiful work as usual, Uwe. Soldering all the resistors is the price to pay for the versatility of those open collector outputs.
I do agree on how nice it is to work with cartridge style soldering irons. I recently got one for home and it is really nice how quickly it reaches temperature.

Typically, there will be current limitation built in if the device says it runs from 5V, 6V, 12V, or 24V DC or 120V/220V AC. It will not hurt anything to put an additional resistor in series - at most the LED will be dimmer.

That was high level complaining
Opposed to wire a panel like this directly to the CNC, the USB BOB is extremely convenient to wire, just 2 hours sitting lazy in front of the workbench and ready to go with minimal amount of wires used.
No other DIY CNC makes building control panels this easy, great work from Centroid.

Connected now.
What I found out ist that the 5m extension is only working with max. 0.5m primary USB cable.
Makes sense, because by standard USB2.0 is limited to 5m.
Will the first Opcon work after update also?
