Re: Centroid Operator Control Panel Interface Board: USB-BOB
On my lathe I really only need to use two of the rotary encoder knobs: one for spindle speed and one for feed rate. I don't think I need to control rapid speeds since it's a very small lathe. Can the third rotary encoder be used as a multiplier for the X and Z MPGs I'm going to add? eg: 1x, 10x, 100x, applying only to those MPGs? If not, is there another way to achieve that functionality?
Laying out my front panel now and I want to account for all the buttons and knobs I'm going to add.

In theory, yes. It will require some PLC customization though.friolator wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 11:53 am On my lathe I really only need to use two of the rotary encoder knobs: one for spindle speed and one for feed rate. 1x, 10x, 100x is a planned functionality for the button inputs. You could use a three position rotary switch and three button inputs on USBBOB and assign that all in the Wizard (if Acorn/AcornSix system).

Cool. the 3 position switch works for me. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to come close to using up all the inputs on the USB-BOB, so that should work for me.

Super excited about this addition. What are you projecting the cost will be?

Re: Centroid Operator Control Panel Interface Board: USB-BOB
Is that a 9mm mounting hole for the rotary encoders? or something different? Most of the ones I've used and have kicking around here with a 6mm shaft have a 9mm mounting diameter. Just checking before I start drilling!

Yes, you should do a clearance fit for M9x0.75 threads + 3mm diameter hole (or D shape) for the anti-rotation lug. The anti-rotation lug is 9mm away from the center of the shaft.

Re: Centroid Operator Control Panel Interface Board: USB-BOB
One that might be useful (though may not need to be in the wizard, I'm not sure) - is an override enable/disable. I want to have to hit a switch to enable the feed and spindle speed override knobs, so that if they get accidentally bumped, they don't do anything unless I've got the overrides enabled.
Similarly, MPG enable/disable would be useful as well, so you don't make a move by accident if you bump the wheel.
Is that possible?
