Communication Errors
I am having communication issues, and have not found the problem.
I have two acorn boards, one on a techno lather the other on a PM-25MV mill, both were working fine before I upgraded to CNC12 4.99 rev 8. After trying to run a part on the mill. I had a communication fault, the fault cleared after moving the RJ-45 connector. It came back and then cleared again. I ran the communication stress test and it failed. I shut down the mill and computer (Intel Nuc with an i5-7260U with a single thread of 1993, Shielded Cable) and restarted it. Failed Communication Stress Test, Moved the connector and it passed the test with No Errors. I figured it was a bad cable and replaced the cable with another shielded cable 3 times (2 from Amazon and one that came with the Acorn board). Still failed.
Tried the Intel Nuc on my lathe and it failed. Swapped the Computer on the Lathe to a Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 (i7-6700T single thread 2078) still failed.
Swapped to the lathe (different Acorn board), Lenovo computer, connected and homed lathe, ran communication stress test, failed test.
Swapped to un-shielded cable and test passed. I will find longer un-shielded cable and try on mill. I have a cable tester coming tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Re: Communication Errors
what is the detailed specs of the PC being used?
does the think centre have intel ethernet adapter?
recent additions to TB270 have been made, use it as a check list to get ever detail correct.

Re: Communication Errors
Keith, I will get the report and the specs for the Lenovo, I forgot to take a thumb drive with me.
I did some more testing. All five of the shielded cables that I tried (all failed) showed good shields when checked with an Ohm meter. The error was a 452.
The un-shielded cable (6 foot flat cable) worked with both computers on the mill and the lathe.
It will take a little time to get the report ( I had surgery yesterday to kill a tumor on my kidney).

Re: Communication Errors
Keith, this is what I have, I have not gotten it to pass the stress test with a shielded cable, it does pass with un-shielded flat cable on both mill and the lathe.
It did fail once with the un-shielded but passed after power down of the Acorn and restart of cnc12. I power up everything at the same time, but wait for the heartbeat before starting CNC12.

Re: Communication Errors
I will try that this morning, I did get a shielded cable to work last night on the lathe.
I have always turned on power to the Acorn board first, waited for the heartbeat and then turned on the computer. When I got ready to try the CNC12 beta I added a power strip to the machine that powered up everything a one time. After the Acorn board had a heartbeat I turned on the computer. This ended up giving me a failed communication stress test. Last night I un-plugged the computer from the power strip, powered up everything else, waited for a heartbeat, then plugged the computer in and turned it on. I reset and ran the homing macro. Then ran the communication stress test, it passed without any errors. It seems that when I delay power to the computer it negotiates with the Acorn as it should. It appears to do something when powered even if it is turned off.
I will check the half duplex in the morning as well as try the above on the mill to see if it is the same as the lathe.
Thanks Uwe

Re: Communication Errors
One of my Lenovos is with Intel chip for network.
It works only half duplex and Acorn turned on the same time as the PC.
Rebooting Acorn without the PC gives com errors.
The others with Realtek are working without problems....

Re: Communication Errors (Problem Fixed)
Going to 100 mbps half duplex fixed the problems on both machines. Thanks to all for the help.
