Guys,
I think Marc and some others thought they may have some setup help for using a Siemens 611 servo as a spindle motor. I think I have the enables setup right and the spindle seems to go firm holding position. Might be a velocity mode setting I have to change.
But, I'll leave my report and if anyone has a good Tech Bulletin or, other helpful documentation it would be great.
I get the spindle to engage and hold position but cant get forward or reverse rotation using the +/-10Vdc AOut to the drives Ain.
Could be some Centroid parameters to get right as well.

Have you verified the analog voltage at the analog input to the Siemens drive?
If you are getting a suitable analog signal there, then the Centroid software/parameters is doing what it is supposed to do.
I do not immediately know what could be miswired or misconfigured with a Siemens 611 drive, to allow it to enable and hold position, but not to respond to an analog speed command.

I'm getting the voltage and the enables but, I think I discovered this drive is a PWM. What is the best way to convert or use Centroid to control a PWM spindle servo in your guys experience?

We did resolve this. The owner and I forced on an output setup for fast stopping the spindle and that also worked to enable the drive. The documentation for Siemens just seems complex to find the right information. Late 1990's system. It's labeled PWM but is setup for +10 full forward and -10vdv for full reverse.

Good catch. If I had had more time last week, I would have posted the attached schematic page. See X431-81, on lines 21-22.
On the Quickdrill, I wired that signal through an immediate contact of the safety relay, so that opening the safety relay forces the drive to fast-stop the motor. See also line 14, where an off-delay timed contact of the safety relay opens the drive enable circuit on the power module (X121-64), which -- if I understood the function correctly -- ensures no further current applied to the spindle motor. Neither of these actions depends on PLC software logic.

I'm going to check that out and see what changes we should make. I'm not familiar with Fast Stop. I assumed it is emergency cases as well as, tapping, tool changes? Really would you only want to coast to stop at the end of a program? Seems if used to frequently it could be bad on bearings and their housings?
