CNC CONTROL SUGGESTIONS

Post by Juan Mtz »

Dear Community,

I want to buy a controller for a CNC machine but I am not sure what controller I need to buy, There are several options and for that reason I am a little confused.

Here you are the description hoping you may suggest the right controller i am needed:

1.-The application CNC is for cutting glass.
2.- The cutting figure is an automotive windshield.
3.-Quantity of axis are (4)......X1,X2, Y & Z(TURN).
4.-The servomotor and amplifiers will be Yaskawa.
5.-Cutter Up/Down wil be pneumatically.
6.-Mechanical Stopper for positioning glass will be pneumatic.
7.-Conveyor Belt for moving the glass

i do not know if this machine application is it a router, what do you think about it?

I have never working with Centroid Controllers and this will be my firts proyect, for that reason I appreciate all your recomendations and support.

Thank you.

sounds like you could do what you want with the Acorn CNC controller.
https://shopcentroidcnc.com/acorn-cnc-controller/

and customize the VCP (virtual control panel) for the application.

Thank you for your comments.... I undertand Acorn controller use Step and Direction and for that reason i did not chose the option.
The idea is to install a drive YASKAWA MODEL SGD7S-120A00A with ServomoMotors for speedest, Close loop and better reability, for that reason the option that I am thinking is Oak Controller but I am not sure if is possible to use it without spindle motor due to the tool for cutter glass is a tool that touch the glass with pressure to cut the glass. o not used Turn for cutting glass.

Z axis(turn) will be a servomotor to follow the direction of movment cutting and this axis has attached the glass cutter tool, Axis X1 will be Paired with X2,
and axis Y will be istalled in the bridge.

The Project is for removing old controller and install a new one.

What options I have accoding this information? can we use Oak controller without spindle?

I appreciate your information and help.

Regards!

This machine sounds like it is similar to a tangential knife setup. Is this only cutting flat glass? Regardless, any of our controllers would be capable of running such a machine. None of them require a rotating spindle.

Acorn will be the most cost effective option if you truly only need a paired gantry, an axis along the gantry, and a rotary axis for the tool. If you need more axes or need scales then ACORN6 would work. Yes, they are step and direction only but the machine will be reliable and the Yaskawa servos will perform admirably. The ACORN and ACORN6 Wizard has some settings to help configure tangential knives that might be useful for this kind of machine.

If you truly need a fully closed loop system then sure, go with the OAK or HICKORY. They do not currently have a Wizard so the setup will be more involved.

We have a tangential knife setup document in the works. I'll follow up on that and see if it will be ready to release soon.

Dear Centroid467,

The machine is only for cutting flat glass and needs cutting speed because the sizes are large, around 1 x 1.5 meters.
The closed circuit is because we need reliable measures to ensure the correct dimension of the glass.

I undertand that OAK controller do not have wizard ready but if we decide for this controller can we receive support from Centroid for configurate the system?

Also.. I would like to know what is the application wee need to chose when we selecting the software Mill?

NOTE: Do you have email where i can send you a video to see an example of the procedure?

Regards!

Dear CncKeith

Please.. See the attached link to see a video about application of flat glass.
Note: The machine in the video is working well but it helps for undertanding procedure.

thanks, this is just tangential knife application, no problem.
for this application i would suggest either the Acorn or the Hickory CNC controller.

Acorn with AC servos (like Leadshine AC servos or Clearpath, or yaskawa, or delta)
https://shopcentroidcnc.com/acorn-cnc-controller/
-or-
Hickory with AC servos.
