Wireless MPG Pendant Question

Post by AlexD »

Hello guys,

Im new here and to Centroid in general. I have experience in LinuxCNC and some other Chinese offline controls, but i am retrofitting a Bridgeport Interact mill and wanted to go with acorn for it, i ordered Monday and it came to the UK today on Wednesday so im very happy with that.

I just have an initial question about the the Wireless MPG Handwheel, the Rotary Handwheel on the Birdgeport's Heidenhain Control is a smooth encoder wheel, i got very used to this feeling and it was extremely precise and smooth, after unboxing the pendant and had a play around with it i noticed that the wheel has pre-defined positions / clicks to it, is this correct and could it be made to be smooth like the Heidenhain one? Not a massive issue at all just purely preference.

Picture of the mill if its of interest:

Thanks guys

The mechanical click is caused by a spring and detent somewhere inside the MPG encoder handwheel. If you are a bit of a sportsman and don't mind potentially voiding the warranty, you could try to take it apart and remove the spring. It won't alter the resolution but would give you the "smooth" movement you seem to prefer.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies! I will use the pendant first and see how i get on with it, once you put the little handle on it, its actually pretty smooth to use. I dont want to damage it or void the warranty so will probably leave it as is.

Thanks again for the help
