Only getting 0-5v to VFD instead of 0-10v <resolved, VFD settings>

Post by just_Bill »

I am new to Acorn so this has been quite the learning curve. I have a Hunyange VFD with a 2KW spindle. I converted my CNC from Mach3 control to Acorn. Everything works except that I can not get more than 5v sent to the VFD. The wizard spindle settings are for Max speed 24k Min speed 3k
Limit to 5v NO. and with the spindle on and running the DRO maxes out at 12k at 100%. when I check the voltage at the VFD VI and ACM I get 5v.
When I did the Spindle Bench test the output went 0 to 10v. I have to have a setting wrong somewhere because speed control works as it should I just can't get more than 5v.

do you have the analog 0-5vdc output feature selected in the Wizard? if so, change it to 0-10

If it worked during the bench test and you do not have 5V currently selected, then something about your VFD is trying to pull more current than the analog output can provide.

Disconnect the wires from Acorn's analog output, attach a voltmeter to to the analog output like you did for the benchtest. Finally go to MDI and enter M3 S24000. What is the voltmeter reading?

What do you get when you turn the spindle speed override up to 200%?

In manual spindle control, "100%" means half of the maximum possible speed. The override goes to 200%.

yeah! use M3S2000 or what every RPM you want to command the VFD voltage using MDI mode when testing.

When overriding spindle speed to 200% I get 12000 rpm it doesn't go any higher.
In the Wizard the Limit to 5v is Red NO Button.
I will try hooking up the volt meter to the analog wires disconnected from the VFD after work today.

Ok I couldn't' wait till after work. Disconnected the analog line to the VFD and test voltage with MDI commands.
Results are M3 S24000 = 10.14 v: S18000 = 7.62v. Acorn board working correctly. even the mini DRO is reading correctly. Problem is with the VFD.
I guess I will Have to look at my VFD parameters to see which one is limiting the output to the spindle.

Problem Found. PD144 set at 1440. Changed to 3000. Now spindle goes to 24K.
Thanks for the trouble shooting ideas.
