Is there a way to have it automatically do the trail in the software without having to hit f9?
I have found if you setup Dia and Hieght if necessary in the offset library theen assiggn that D number to the D in tool library .
Then make sure in your code you have tpld code which tool you are using then when you start the code with the Run cycle and in Gra[ph mode it will display the trail automatically.
Example
in the tool offset library you setup the first position as tool 001 with a dia of 1.000" thenthe D value is 001.
then go to tool library and set the first position D value to 001 and put in a discription and make sure you save each screen.
now in your code let's say that Z axis will start nin the position 0.200 above the part well after the distance of 0.200 put the tool number T1 H1 right after the 0.200
I think you are over complicating this. Again, this is for NON ATC machines. I ONLY set the tool diameter in the "offset library" and that's it. I make no changes to the height offset or any changes in the tool library or label any tools. Nor do I modify my g code. I use Vectric CAM software and the software numbers the tools in the code for me. If you just want to see the trail this is all you need to do, after you toggle it on of course.
I have a non ATC router and one part I cut on a regular basis has 5 tool changes so I just set the tool diameter in the offset library for the first ten tools to be safe. I hope I never cut a single part with ten tool changes.
Again, I don't do anything in the tool library, just the offset library and I set the diameter only to 1/8". Set yours to whatever you like.

Okay that sounds good to me and yes i use Aspire as well as Vcarve i just make sure my tool libaries match my Acorn
If you just want to see the trail the tool library's dont have to match. This is VERY simple as mentioned.
Just a cautionary word - If you use Centroid's Intercon you will need the actual, precise diameter of each tool to be entered in the Offset Library, at least when using it.
I use Aspire as well as Intercon on both my Router and Mill and therefore ensure both sets of Aspire and Centroid tool libraries match. I'm not bothered by the plot size when graphing but can see the advantage of Shawn's tip for those that require it
Hope this helps

Good point Nigelo for those who use Intercon. I clearly dont use it so it's not an issue for me. I think I tried once but it confused my pea sized brain so I gave up.

Well what do you do if you have several different tools with the exact same number?
Aspir tool librairy allows you to have the same tool number in several different catergories.
