New CNC Mill Build Need Wiring Help!
New member here and new to the CNC world. I am currently tasked with building a 3 axis gantry mill using an Acorn CNC board as the heart of it. One of the many problems that I am running into due to my inexperience is how to wire all of the components together. Listed below are the components that I am currently trying to connect.
Stepper Motor: StepperOnline 34HS59-6004D-E1000
https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/s-ser ... 004d-e1000
Stepper Motor Power Supply: StepperOnline S-350-60
https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/350w- ... s-s-350-60
Stepper Motor Driver: StepperOnline closed loop CL86T version 4.0
https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/close ... -cl86t-v41
Control: Acorn CNC (with its included power supply and relay board) and a DB25 breakout board
I am mainly struggling with how to make connections involve tying multiple wires together as well how to connect the power supplies.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I am feeling a little over my head right now.

Hi Nick, Welcome to the forums.
Looks like Uwe made a build with the same Stepper Motor and Driver, you can find his thread here.
You can find our schematics here, just search for "Acorn," it looks like we have a schematic for the CL87Y but not the CL86T and I'm not sure of the differences at this time but I'll link it just in case it's helpful. ACORN_rev4, STEPPERONLINE CL86Y Drive

Re: New CNC Mill Build Need Wiring Help!
You should use some form of terminal block or strip to make connections that tie multiple wires together. This makes it easy to trace connections and make repairs or modifications as needed. It is especially critical to tie ground connections together at a single point. Other connections can often be daisy-chained but you should keep those wires as short as possible. You can also put multiple wires into the terminals of the green Phoenix connectors on the Acorn - twist the stripped ends of stranded wires together well and insert directly or use wire ferrules on individual wires or twisted groups.
You've got a lot of options for terminal blocks and any of the three main styles will work for you. Just make sure to get components that are rated appropriately for the voltages and currents you will be passing through them as well as the gauge of wires you will be using. Common types include:
I hope that answered at least some of the questions you have.

- DIN rail mount blocks and jumpers.
- Eurostyle strips and jumpers.
- Barrier block type and jumpers. These work well with spade connectors.
I hope that answered at least some of the questions you have.

Re: New CNC Mill Build Need Wiring Help!
Thank you both very much for the help. I was able to get one stepper motor working so far just doing a bench test. Going to keep working on the setup and I really appreciate the help.

Good luck, and not to throw any curve balls, but I do think you can wire up those drives through a DB25.

Yes...connect stepper motors to the DB25 connector.

Re: New CNC Mill Build Need Wiring Help!
I can get the stepper motor to operate when connecting to the Acorn header, however I cannot get it to work when connecting to the DB25. I have attached a breakdown of my current connections and then also how I was trying to connect via the DB25.

Re: New CNC Mill Build Need Wiring Help!
Update...
Everything seems to be working appropriately so far. I have two out of the three motors and drives hooked up as well as a functioning E-stop now. Now going to work on configuring everything and adjusting some parameters as well as learning/experimenting more with the CNC12 software.
Thank you to everyone for the help so far, I greatly appreciate it.

Re: New CNC Mill Build Need Wiring Help!
Another question regarding the wiring and electrical aspect of this project.
Using the three stepper motors and drives above, do I need a power supply for each motor and drive or is one sufficient?
