nothing obvious in the report..lots of spindle faults in the short error log VFD not on?

if the DRO is moving, Acorn is sending pulses.

tom gave you the debug procedure to isolate, follow his method.

the problem is that you could have bad motors, bad drives, bad wiring between motor and drives, bad wiring between Acorn and drives, or bad Acorn.

You have a working combination of good Y motor, goid Y motor to drive cabling, good Y drive, good Y to Acorn cabling, and good Acorn Y axis. Now you start selectively switching individual components. Start with just the motors. Swap all of them with the working Y motor. Once you have checked all of the motors, put a dood one back on and verify it's still working.

Now move on to the motor/drive cables. Test all of those with the same process above. Then move on to the drives, then on to the drive Acorn wires. Finally move the Acorn wires to the other axis header connections.

Thanks for the feedback.

So here is what I have learned. I suspected a stepper drive was the issue because the x drive had no green light and while the acorn is sending a signal there was no motion. DRO changing.

The Y axis works as it should.
- acorn signal good
- acorn to stepper drive wiring good
- stepper drive good
- stepper drive to motor wiring good
- motor good

Ordered new CL86Y drive from stepperonline. (2) dip switches on top set to match working stepper drive.

I can use stepper drivers in the y system to test -->

Replacing the y stepper drive in the chain above with either of the new stepper drives I received from stepperonline i get:
- green light on drive, no error LED
- locked motor, holding position
- DRO moving
- no motor turning.
- switch back to the original stepper drive and the Y works again.

This sure seems to point to bad stepper driver(s). Is there anything else I can do to check these? Again they are brand new and show a green light and hold position.
Whoever I ask says these shouldn't be bad, looking to make sure I am not missing something here before I order more...

* VFD not plugged in so understandable that there are errors there, let me know if you think this is part of teh issue. Working on getting the 220 over to the machine.
*I'm not including the z drive and motor in the test because it works and also has a brake which I don't want to introduce in the troubleshooting process.

Check out these videos:

Should I just order 3 new different drives? CL86T?

any recommendations?

Update:
Stepperonline is suggesting I reset the drive to original specs with their little programmer connecting box. Unfortunately it isn’t currently not available to ship to the US.

They have been helpful trying to sort this out and are working on getting one available.

Does anyone on the forum here have one of these Y-USB-CL connector boxes I would borrow to try to reset this drive? I would be able to pay shipping both ways. Or even better (and less likely) anyone in Salt Lake the may have one I could borrow?

Thanks DG

FYI I reset the drivers with the little box, still no go.
Stumped.

Stumped.
go back to bench test mode.
then connect only one drive at a time. solve by process of elimination.
