I love layers. For me, I would never want everything one one layer. I like the ability to turn layers off and on while I'm drawing as it helps declutter complicated drawings. The only other program I use is the Vectric software and it imports all the layers as I've drawn them. Being able to turn layers off and on makes toolpathing A LOT faster as well. Each tool path is on it's own layer. I do not use Fusion or any other CAD program.rk9268vc wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 6:42 pmBe aware that autocad saves layers in the dxf. like if the drawing is 5 layers, the dxf will have 5 layers.
If you end up resaving, see if there is a way to save everything as one layer.
This is a problem with other cad software which can sometimes only grab one layer, so you will only get some of the lines brought in. Especially with fusion where it wont let you pick which layer to bring in like solidworks does.

The schematics are drawn with DraftSight working in paper space or "Sheet Mode".

Re: Schematic templates available?
I watched your video today on this control box. Always like your builds and explanations in general. Cant wait to see the project.clough42 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 10:58 am I am getting ready to document my Acorn/Ether1616/Avid/Clearpath build on my YouTube channel, and people are already asking me for schematics. Is there a standard template available that I can use to draw them up? I see that all of the schematics on the web site use common components, but I didn't see a template available anywhere.

Having watched most of James' videos, I look forward to seeing the content he comes up with on his Acorn project. I'm sure he will bring much enlightenment. Probably sell some more Acorns as well.

Re: Schematic templates available?
Thanks, everyone, for the help and pointers. I'm slow to respond because I didn't see any notifications. I need to sort that out....
I am currently planning on using the CNC4PC board. If it doesn't work out, there are always options, including spinning my own board.

If you have access to AutoCAD, you can also import the PDFs.
Cheers,

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: Schematic templates available?
Curious what you're using the box for. That's a lot of I/O for only two motors (tool changer?). Whatever it is, I think you'll enjoy Acorn/Centroid, and by enjoy I mean get it put together quickly, maybe do some light VCP customization, and have it just work so you can get on with your projects.
Oops: I see just now that you have been struggling with an Ether1616 issue; so much for my implication that it'll "just work". Still, I think you've picked a solid platform.
