Fuji servo drives with acorn.

Post by Gearhead »

Hello guys. FIRST POST. I have 2 400 watt servo drivers and motors. I am trying to wire to acorn with no luck. I have them working in jog mode. But not controlled by acorn cnc. Can't find much info on the fuji drives and what i do find is over my head 😒. Wish I would have bought some cheaper easier drives to set up. Any help would be great to point me in the right direction.

First, it would be super helpful if you posted the model number for the drive in question and a link to the manual so others don’t have to go hunt it down to try and help you. Any pics of the Acorn and the wiring would also help. And lastly, post a current report from your Acorn so we can see how you have it configured. There’s no possible way for anyone to help you without ALOT more information.

Do you have a link for an installation manual?

You need a reference that shows you how to use the open-collector mode for the pulse inputs on CN1/33, 34, 35 and 36.

How do you have those terminals, plus CN1/12, wired to the Acorn and its power supply right now?

According to the sales brochure, the VV type driver will not work with Acorn. Acorn uses step and direction outputs to the drive. It looks like the VV drives accept either analog speed, analog torque, or differential quadrature. You might be able to create a circuit to take Acorn's step and direction and create a differential quadrature signal for your drives. Probably not easy though.

Those drives will work with the Oak board.

Page 11 of the sales brochure does say, for the "pulse input" terminals, that the pulse format can be pulse-and-direction (or forward/reverse pulses, or quadrature) depending on parameter setting.

You still have to figure out the electronic interface, since the drive inputs are differential, and you only have single-ended outputs available.

If you do not have an installation manual that tells you what parameter to set for pulse-and-direction position-mode control, and how to wire open-collector signals to the pulse inputs, then you will be dead in the water.

The sales brochure is not an installation manual.

Has anyone figured out how to make this work? I have the same Fuji set up but in a 750 watt.
I have fallen into the same trap but since I'm retrofitting my router table into a plasma table and I have no other option than to use the Acorn Board.
The Oak board isn't compatible with the Plasma System.

Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks

Marc spotted in the manual where these drives can be configured for step and direction input. Theoretically, all that you would need to do to get them to work with Acorn, would be to create a single-ended to differential converter for the inputs. There are TTL logic chips available that can do this.

AcornSix supports differential quadrature drives with ACORN6EXP add on board and we have plasma support in the works.

I Really appreciate all the quick response.

I hope Centroid can work things out soon with the Plasma and the ACORN6EXP.
The ACORN6EXP looks less of a headache and a better fit.
In the mean time Ill keep working on the water table and put some lipstick on this pig.
