Huanyang VFD issue

Post by Swarfmonger »

Hello,

I have been retrofitting a vertical mill with an Acorn board and am down to my last couple of installation issues and would really appreciate some help on one of them. I am using a Huanyang VFD (HYD1D523B) and it has been wired using your Rev 3 schematic with the exception of placing the common wire in the FC position instead of the FA since I read somewhere on this forum that the print was not correct in that regard. The motor specs are: 220V,1720 RPM,6.5 amps,60 cycles.

Everything seems to be working as it should with the exception of the speed control. the pot on the VFD will alter the speed fine but the Acorn board will not alter it at all. I have already inspected the 0-10V output on the Acorn board and it seems to be working as it should (10 volts at full power,5 volts at half power Etc.) but the speed remains constant when I try to change it with the controller. I think it might be a programming issue in the VFD itself based on the evidence but I can't say for sure. I am new to this so if I am not explaining the situation clearly or have given inadequate information, please accept my apology in advance.

Regards,
Dave

If the speed works from the panel potentiometer, then you must set the frequency control method parameter to "0-10v" instead of the pot.

Look at your manual and see if there is a jumper setting for it. On mine, to the right of where the wires go, there are 3 small pins with a jumper. I had the same problem with mine and it took me a while to finally figure out that the jumper was wrong. It should be one of the first things inside your manual in the set up. It is very easy to overlook because they are small.

How close are you to these attached sheets?
Also, you can benchtest your VFD before connecting to Acorn.

See this for benchtesting a VFD: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=2446

If the manual speed dial is working on the vfd, you do not have the vfd param settings done right.

These type of VFD's work perfect with Acorn. You have to change a couple of parameters in the VFD to tell it you are getting the Speed from the analog inputs and you have to tell it you are controller from an external sources for FWD and REVERSE. I have this same VFD on my system with the Acorn and it works perfect. On key hint is make sure you use heavier gauge wire for the analog inputs or they will bounce and change speeds constantly. I used a pair of 18 AWG wires and it works perfect. If you go with like 22 or 20 AWG and you see the spindle speed changing that is your issue.

If you can't figure out the parameters let me know and I will post them.

Thanks for all of the replies,I really appreciate it! As it turns out bmilam hit the nail on the head. Once the jumper was set to the proper location for remote speed control use it sprung to life and started behaving exactly as it is supposed to. Thanks again to everyone taking the time to help,This is a great product and this forum makes it that much more great.

Glad it worked for you. It took me a few days to trace down the same issue on mine.
