How to connect a TouchProbe and a ToolSetter at the same time

Post by Fredsan »

I am using a touch plate on a fixed position (G30 P4) to do automatic measuring of tool length offstets. I use the XHC DT02 Wireless Toolsetter, it uses a NO switch. This works perfectly.

I have the Digitizing Bundle license, so I also want to start using a touch probe to do the part setup, and doing some digitizing. The touch probe uses a NC switch.

How can I connect the ToolSetter and the TouchProbe at the same time, can I use 2 different inputs?

Yes, there is a parameter that tells the control to use a separate input for the tool touch measurements. We will add it to the Wizard.

I also look forward to some guidance on this as I have the tool measurement pretty much sorted but I am wary of losing this by uninformed messing.
I am using input 7 for the tool length.
Regards Bob.

Great to hear it will be added to the Wizard. I realy appreciate the perfect support on the forum.

I use input 5 for the tool setter, in the Wizard I configured it as probe. I have inputs 7+8 un-assigned.

I checked the manual again to see which additional parameters to set to also connect the probe, but i am confused which to use.
I attached a report with my curent settings.

Can anybody inform me the parameters to configure?

I understand it will be added to the Wizard in a future release, but I would like to finalize my setup. This is one of the last issues I have, then my change to Centroid is complete.

Parameter 11 tells the control which input to use for the probe while parameter 44 tells the control which input to use for the TT1. From the main screen press F1(Setup)->F3(Config)->F3(Params).
When requesting support, please ALWAYS post a current report. Find out how to take a report from your Acorn, CNC11 or CNC10 system here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecvg0VJp1oQ.

If your question is PLC, Macro or program related, please also post a copy of the program or macro as well.

Without the above information we may not be able to help and/or reply until the required information is posted..

Again perfect support :)

Anybody who is interested to also configure a touch plate (NO) and a Probe (NC), I have setup the following:

The touch plate is connected to input 5, in the wizard I selected 'probe' function.
The probe is connected to input 7, in the wizard I selected 'not used' function, because you cannot select 'probe' 2 times. This was the part that confused me how what to configure.

I set the parameters as follows:
Parameter 11 = -7 (input 7, using minus value to indicate Open on contact)
Parameter 12 = 10 (Tool number of the probe)
Parameter 17 = 4 (I use G30 P4 as return position with tool length measuring)
Parameter 44 = 5 (input 5)

Excellent timing, Fredsan!

Today I have been connecting up my touch pad for tool lengths (NO) and also a butchered Renishaw MP1 probe for work probing (NC). So you have saved me hours of grieving and trials. The touch pad works of course but without your changes the probe isn't about to do anything of use. Hopefully I will be able to get probing working tomorrow.

BTW, what did you do about the "probe detect" input - can you share one input between both probes? Otherwise you must choose between not using probe detect - or using up 4 inputs.

Edit - I have the NC probe working nicely but the NO touch plate (tool setting) function makes the spindle retract, which is the wrong direction and the signal doesn't terminate the search. The inputs all seem to be connected up and working. I'm thinking it possibly believes the probe is still present because the probe detect input is shared. Is there a separate tool setter detect input? I have been through all the parameters but can't see one. Any idea where I am going wrong here?

No - I'm defeated. It can see when the tool setter / touch pad is connected (and objects when it isn't) and the input status changes when the touch pad is grounded (Alt-I etc). But when I ask for it to auto detect the tool length it goes upwards, away from the touch pad and then sits at the top position. Shorting the touch pad to the table doesn't seem to register any change either on the way up or at the top.

Can somebody suggest what is happening? Thanks!
