The DB25 connection.

Post by karben14 »

I am new to cnc and the Acorn board, and I have a question about the board. I am going to use the DB25 connection like this thread suggests.

viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1527

It is in regards to DB25 connection options. I ordered a db25 breakout board and will go that way.

The Acorn board has pin-outs and a DB25 connectors. I am just a beginner in electronics so please bear with me. I thought that the DB25 was just a copy of the pin-outs and is on the board as an option for connecting. I thought that the DB25 outputs were an exact copy of the physical pin-outs. While reading the above mentioned thread and watching the video I get the impression that the DB25 connector is special or different in some way.
SO HERE is my question. Is the DB25 pin-outs somehow different than the physical pin-outs? Why would connecting to the DB25 give better results than using the pin-outs? Thanks for considering my question!

Look on the Wizard Tab #5 DB mapping. (attached) When I did mine I simply used the default settings, step and direction for 4 axes on pins 2 thru 9 and 4 grounds 22 thru 25.

You will have to list your components (and a cut sheet of the recommended connections) in order for any of us to recommend which set of terminals you should use.

These are the drivers I am using, the KL-5056.
Here is the link to the manual.

https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... .php?id=50

I have 4 drivers, with two drivers and motors for my X axis, 1 for the Y axis and 1 for the Z axis.

The manual mentions the use of a 1K resistor if VCC is 12 volts and a 2K if VCC is 24 volts, and no resistor if the VCC is 5 volts, is this relevant when using the DB25 connector?

I didn't read thru the connection diagram in your manual, but based on what you just posted, yes your drives would be compatible with the DB 25 connection.

I think you said that I should follow the Leadshine diagram, if I remember right.

Do I need to use inline resisters or does the DB25 connector supply the correct voltage?

You will not need resistors with the DB25 connection
