BBG has died (RESOLVED)

Post by mntlvr »

Hello
I have purchased a Acorn about a month ago and have been using it for the past few days. :D
On Friday of this week I was using it and shut it down for afternoon , closed down CNC12 and then unplugged the machine.
I wanted to use it on that very same evening and it would not boot, upon looking closer at the unit there was but on green lite on and that was on the main board , no blue power led or heart beat led or another led was lit. Now this board is covered by a warranty i believe, so if BBG is dead and no power led then how do I get it replaced?
Thanks

Purchase another Acorn kit online.
It will ship the next day.
Email support@centroidcnc.com for an RMA #
Ship back faulty acorn, support will test, if found to be faulty a refund will be issued

Or you can buy a new bbg
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Se ... 1qEALw_wcB
and simply follow the debricking instructions to install the firmware.
Overseas customers find this quicker and cheaper solution.

That's good to know!

Is it possible to upgrade or replace the ACORN board to let's say an existing beagle bone green?

I believe I read on Centroid support page if you replace the BBG with one you bought yourself you must pay them $29.00 more to make the system reg ionize the board because of serial number. Does anyone know anything about this issue? Also What I paid for the Kit was a special and now that special is over so I am losing money with this Controller is this how Centroid works and warranty its products?

Also if I buy the BBG stand alone and it then boots will Centroid refund the purchase price of the New BBG if I send the old one back?

Thank You
Hope this does not become a habit to have these boards fail in only 3 uses. :D

So far the few units returned have fallen into two categories. either users applying power where they shouldn't or BBG was bricked and just needed debricking.

Well since mine does not allow you to even turn it on debricking is not an option and since I was using it I was not applying any power to the board that shoyld not be there so I may be the first but not necessarily the last I agree everyone makes mistakes and no company makes 100% parts that do not fail but I will know when repair inspects the unit for cause of death
Thanks

Have you disconnected every wire from the IO board except for 24v power and verified that the BBG will still not boot? If yours is a version 3 with removable connectors its a 15 second test

Gary as you have read in my posts the unit has been removed from the machine and connected to 24vdc source of known quality and the only lite that is lit is the "green" power led on the main board so I removed BBG from the main board as the others have suggested and see if I could power the BBG that way and after hooking to know good 5 vdc at 2 amps supply by the means of micro USB port and still no leds are lit on the BBG so I am returning it so they can play with it and I will install my new kit when it arrives and go from there.
