Help Connecting a JMC Integrated Servo - RESOLVED!

I am connecting a JMC iHSS57-36-20 integrated servo to the Acorn. The manual describes three different ways to connect the motor; common anode, common cathode, and differential signal. I think the common cathode is the proper method, is this correct for the Acorn? Here is a link to the manual.

Also, any advice on how to connect the ALM+ ALM- and PED+ PED- lines to the Acorn?

Use common anode with 24V VCC. Wire to the ACORN screw terminals.
ALM+, PED+ to ACORN inputs. ALM-, PED- to ACORN COM.

I have figured out from various connection diagrams and the configuration wizard where to connect and how to configure the ALM+ ALM-.

According to the servo manual, the PED output from the motor is the Arrive Position. I know I could assign the PED- signal to an input, but I don't see how to configure that input in the wizard that even vaguely resembles an Arrive Position. What am I missing? Is the PED signal useful/needed?

I see no useful purpose in connecting the PED output put signal to Acorn. I could see it being useful in automation on a specific machine with repetitive tasks. That output could be monitored by a PLC before performing the next step in the operation sequence.


From some documentation I found:
"In-position Signal: OC output signal, activated when actual motor position reaches to target
position. This port can sink or source MAX 20mA current at 24V. By default, the impedance
between PED+ and PED- is high in normal operation and changed to low when the target
position is reached. The active impedance of in-position signal can be software configurable"

I'm having trouble getting the motor to spin. I have watched the video series about bench testing a motor and configuring the wizard several times. I have connected everything according to the videos.

I have connected:
Motor PUL- to Acorn ST1
Motor DIR- to Acorn DR1
Motor ENA- to Acorn EN1
Motor PUL+, DIR+, and ENA+ to Acorn COM (the one beside EN1)

I have power to the motor, the shaft can't be turned by hand. I have configured the wizard only Axis 1 is enabled.

What am I missing?

According to the schematic, you are supposed to connect a +5vdc OR +24vdc power supply to the drive's step/dir/ena + terminals. See eng199s comment above.
So no to Acorn common, yes to Connecting to Acorn +24vdc

Marty,
I connected to Acorn +24VDC, when I try to jog the X - I get an alarm light on the motor. It goes away when the e-stop is reset. According to the manual, this means the current too high or too low, however, it is within tolerance.
11.2 Power on red alarm light on
  • Please check the motor feedback signal and if the motor is connected
    with the drive.
  • The stepper servo drive is over voltage or under voltage. Please
    lower or increase the input voltage
