Can acorn connect with Maxnc Lathe -Close Loop-?

It does use encoder feedback on the spindle. Which allows for proper rigid tapping, threading, and even multi lead threading, etc.
However currently, and probably forever, Acorn can only support "hybrid" closed loop on the axis.

There are many drives available that are closed loop and the control, and error/position compensation are done in the drive. Acorn does not follow the motor position.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Acorn board being closed loop with the newer servo/stepper drives.

If your MaxNC system is like the one I had many years ago, the stepper driver was different than the norm. It was called a "wave-drive" system. Mach3 has a special MaxNC mode but I'm thinking Acorn won't work since it is a step & direction system. You'd probably be better off changing to more modern drivers anyway. I have no idea what type of encoder it has or if it'll work with Acorn.
