Wiring NPN Proximity Sensors to Acorn Board

Post by Krenovian »

My mill is equipped with NPN proximity sensors which take 6-36 vdc. They are normally open. In my Mach3 setup I had them wired to a CNC4PC C11G BOB which required a 10K ohm resistor between the output lead from the sensor and the input terminal on the C11G BOB. In this thread: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1286. it is recommended that an NPN proximity sensor be connected as follows. Common (V-) connected to Common, V+ connected to +24 vdc, and the output lead to an input terminal on the Acorn board.

Based on this discussion I'm assuming I can remove the resistors currently installed on the output leads correct?

I have an ATX power supply providing +12 vdc. Can I run 12 vdc to the proximity sensors or do they need to see +24 vdc because they are connected to the Acorn board?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

CJ...
You are correct. No resistors needed. I used the same on my lathe. look at 1:15 into this video: https://youtu.be/NvlBFmM2yos
