New Build: Phoenix 4'x4' CNC Router
Starting a new build for a customer. Its a nice heavy 4'x4' CNC Router made by Phoenix/Magnum Technologies. Originally came with an old Centroid DC Brush Servo control. Being refit with Acorn, DMM Technologies DYN4 AC servo drives and 750W AC servos. It will be fed from a 230VAC 30A 4 wire circuit in order to provide the necessary power to the DYN4 drives, a 15A 120V dust collector, and the Porter Cable router.
I am building and testing the control here at home, then will take to their shop and install it, run motor cables, install the motors, connect limit switches and finish software setup and calibrate.
Pictures can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zUq5HtCOv0uFuanQ2
1/8/18: PC Built and Acorn benchtest to ensure communication
1/9/18: "Body work" done on original cabinet, side hole filled where DC Drive heat sink attached, back plate drilled and populated with major components.

1/10/18: Made cut out in cabinet for strain relief, drilled cabinet for outlet box and power cable entry. Mounted PS for Acorn, and made up the signal cables for the DYN4 drives. (Did I say I despise connectorizing? Actually its not too bad, I do not use solder cups, I use AMP crimpers to crimp Dsub pins. Tested the cables and they are all good.

Marty, I noticed in your video and your Pics you have the original Acorn/DMM Schematic. Did you use it or the newer one from DMM?

Re: New Build: Phoenix 4'x4' CNC Router
I was working off the Centroid Acorn Schematic, then I noted the DMM schematic was much simpler.
I am on hold waiting for the updated Centroid Acorn Schematic. They have theirs and DMM's
I believe at Centroid HQ they also have a DYN4 drive. So perhaps they (Or I?? ) will prove it out.

Re: New Build: Phoenix 4'x4' CNC Router
Update:
Today I assembled the computer to the back of the monitor
Built the switch housing for the remote ON/OFF Switch and the Estop button
I wired all the AC circuits on the back panel
I test fired the backpanel, checked power to Acorn
Fired up the CNC PC, ran the Wizard and configured output 3 for Spindle FWD and output 4 for Vacuum.
Tested the heavy duty relays.
Waiting on clarification for wiring the logic to DYN4 drives and awaiting a EMI filter for DYN4 logic power, should be any day and I can wire the logic circuit cables I built for the DYN4 drives.
...hurry up and wait....

Re: New Build: Phoenix 4'x4' CNC Router
Update
Backpanel nearly complete. Waiting on a relay.
UPDATED 1/22/18
Configured DMM Technology DYN4 and 750W AC motor for bench testing and configuring DYN4 drives
VIDEO TEMPORARILY REMOVED
There was a problem with my terminology and the way I implemented using the Z+ index pusle signal from the DYN4 drive. I need to get some clarification from DMM.
This video shows me testing and configuring CNC12 to use the DYN4's Z+ encoder output (Marker pulse) for homing. Very similar to what I did with the EMCOTURN 120 Lathe:
Unfortunately, we got shipped NEMA23 AC Servos, and the NEMA 34's are back ordered. DMM Technologies overnighted the one they had so that I could continue benchtesting and configuration. So that helped a lot. DMM has been very helpful all the way around. I give them a big thumbs up!
I hope to do the cabinet install on Monday 1/22, cable the machine and mount the one NEMA 34 motor on the X axis, which is the worst of the 3 to mount up. I will try to get video clips if possible, if not pictures.

Marty, Nice job on the videos.. and fantastic information. not only accurate homing but more importantly repeatable day to day use.. you never have to reset the part WCS if you do it this way.. big time saver! -Keith
