that is part of the problem. You can not turn off automatic updates in Home. You can in Pro. There are a lot of things you can manage in the Pro version that Home doesn't allow. Especially in regards to the firewall.

Okay, I’ll look into upgrading to Pro. Any other ideas on where to look to figure this out? I have CNC12 running on my older laptop today. It also runs Windows 10 Home and, so far, it’s been working fine. I suppose that’s not saying much though. I’m leaving it on all day and will see what happens.

First things first. Keep testing on the laptop, though I am not a fan of using laptops for CNC control because of all the possible power saving features potentially interfering with CNC12

Thanks, Marty. The laptop ran it fine and after half the day, I decided to compare settings between the 2 PCs. Both have the firewall turned off but the laptop allowed cnct and cncm as programs allowed to bypass the firewall, where the problem PC only had cncm allowed. Note, the firewalls are turned OFF but I am grasping at straws now so figured I’d try and change the problem PC to match. CNC12 is running on the problem PC and will see how long it lasts. Fingers crossed.

Control Panel
System & Security
Windows Defender Firewall
Left side Allow an App or Feature through Windows Defender Firewall
Click Change Settings on the App list
Locate CNCM and CNCT in the list, check the boxes for both PRIVATE & PUBLIC

Give that a try.
I don't think that is going to solve your communication problem but give it a go....

Well, it's been a few hours and it's still working. I also don't think allowing the program through the firewall is the solution, shouldn't matter when the firewall is already off, but who knows. Will keep the machine on and keep watching it.

It’s been almost 5 hours and no error messages and CNC12 is still working perfectly! As ridiculous as it sounds, perhaps that was the problem. After a bit more time (assuming no more issues), I’ll try and restrict cnct again and see if the problem comes back.

Okay, as expected, it looks like the allowed programs was not the solution. It seemed like it might have been the cure with promising results in the beginning, but not so. I can "force" an ethernet communication error by simply unplugging the ethernet cable, but CNC12 will recover normally after plugging it back in and cycling the reset button. So, it seems to me for some unexplained reason, CNC12 will randomly lock up and be totally unresponsive, requiring a forced restart (meaning powering it off) of the PC. There are no error messages when it happens. I don't think it's really an issue with the ethernet connection or with interference in the wiring. No idea where to go next, aside from long term testing on the old laptop.

Here's a report I just generated. Not sure if it will be of any use?
