Here is Microsoft's answer to this:

I also scanned the V4.10 Zip file and then the files after being extracted with Eset anti virus and Malwarebytes Premium. No problems were found so you must have gotten the file somewhere else and not from Centroid.

I’m not sure I’m understanding. I downloaded the zipped file from the Centroid website and the PC automatically deleted it because it said a virus was detected. Defender is always on...I don’t think you can turn it off. Why the VCP supposedly has the Trojan now...no idea. I’m slow...I don’t get it.

Because of the actions that VCP performs - intercepting packets to get data and injecting packets to send to the hardware, it can sometimes generate a false positive. Of the 100's and 100's of people that are now running Acorn, only 1 other person has reported this. He updated his Windows Defender and the warning went away. You should try the same.

Now, when I try and download CNC12 4.10, it says it has a virus and won't let me open it. And, it won't even let me run CNC12 on the lathe (it was working fine 10 minutes ago!) and says the VCP has a trojan win32/fuerboos.A!cl. What the hell is that??? I guess I'm starting all over again...
Have you scanned your own machine for viruses/malware? Just wondering.....

Use your laptop for awhile see if it holds up well and allows you to continue through the learning process.

Great point Scott.
ScotY, did you allow your PC to run all its Windows updates?

I had not scanned the PC for viruses because I assumed Defender would catch anything from what I downloaded. I did download a couple of diagnostic apps in an attempt to rule out some issues, per the guidance of the PC guy. It must have been from that because I don't use this PC for anything except CNC12 and GWizard. Anyway, Defender eventually got rid of it and I'm back up and running. So far, it's good. I'm still trying to systematically update drivers and see if I have some bad memory sticks. No problems today, thus far.

Well, CNC12 has been running ALL day without a hiccup! 8-) The PC is running on 4GB of RAM as I removed one of the sticks. I'm going to experiment and see if I can determine if I have a bad one. Otherwise, things are looking up!

Just read through this and was wondering if you have Windows 10 32, or 64. I ask because 32 can only address 4gb or ram, which could be why it works with only 4gb and not 8gb.
