Acorn CNC12 v4.10 Mill and Lathe has been released for download.

For those upgrading, existing License files work with the new version of CNC12 just reload the file after install/upgrade is complete using the Util menus as usual.

Hey Gang,

I just updated from 4.08 to the new 4.10 and that all went smooth. Updated the Wizard with all my settings which were working perfect. When I started 4.10 and started to jog my axis sudden I would get "9031 Drive Fault" , and this happened on every axis. I knew everything had been working perfect before, so I thought what could be making the drive fault. I looked at the Wizard again and wondered if the Input5 drive ready signal could be the issue. I could not use those signals with my drives because you can't daisy chain those ready signals when you don't have access to the collector and emitter on that output signal from my servo drivers. I just marked that signal as unused in the Wizard until I finish a little PC board to handle all the drive ready signals and that fixed my issue. The earlier version of the software must not have been looking at the Drive Ready signal, at least that is all I could figure out. Everything works perfect again now, just in case anyone else has this issue.

As most of the documentation is still for CNC11, could you please clarify for my / our understanding:

"PLC" operations presumably refer to what is now executed in the Beagle Bone Green and "CNC11 software" refers to what is executed in the Windows 10 program. I'm guessing that much of the software in the All-In-One and Oak was developed for their DSP (and CPLD or FPGA?). I find it a bit confusing that you refer to a PLC in all the documentation. Does the CNC12 send the G, M etc code to the BBG which then creates the machine moves? And the AIO / Oak did that in the DSP? The PLC .SRC file seems to configure both the user console and low level stuff in the BBG which confuses me.

Did you ever produce a white paper giving an overview of the Acorn and / or AIO architectures? It's doubtless clear as day to you Centroid guys who have lived and breathed it all these years but to a newcomer, even with some technical knowledge it's a bit of a detective story trying to get my head around the different levels of macros, CNC11 system variables and PLC system variables. I've been digesting the PLC programming manual and user manuals but I'm not there yet.

in short the BBG does the hard core motion control and takes commands from CNC12 for I/O from the Acorn PLC program which is running inside of CNC12. the BBG is replacing the DSP on the Allin1Dc and the Oak board. In fact the new Oak board called "Red Oak" uses the same BBG as the Acorn board.

Interesting - although you still seem to have a couple of Altera (Intel!!) FPGAs on that one, so presumably the BBG is a gateway and handles the GP IO whereas it does everything on the Acorn. Amazing how much power there is in some of these modern maker boards. If you compare a TMS320(?) from 10-15 years ago, the BBG is a leap forward. Pretty smart idea redefining the architecture and rejigging the s/w like that but must have been a big job.

Still not much wiser about how it all works together - the programming guide starts out right down in the leaves. I guess figuring it out will be a rite of passage.

Hey cncKeith, How about telling us what you can about the Red Oak board you posted about above? I see interfaces that look like rj45 jacks. How would you use those to interface say a Sigma 5 servo? How many I/O, advantages over existing Oak, etc? Thanks.
