Wiring Teco FM50-202-C

Post by KirkD »

I have the Teco Westinghouse VFD

http://dealerselectric.com/images/Produ ... manual.pdf

I have figured out the Reset, For, Rev, Reset pins and figured out how to program them. Where the confusion coming in is that pin 5 is 12v. So I'm hopeful someone will take a look at the manual that I linked to above and to let me know which pin to hook to as the common (I think pin 10) and which pins to hook up the the 0-10v analog ground and out H8 (I think is is pin 10 for ground and pin 9 for the analog output). If that is correct, it is ok to have 2 leads going to pin 10.

The wiring diagram is on page 19.

Thanks in advance

Did you get your VFD wired up? I am not so sure the FM50 can be used on ACORN.

Did you get your VFD wired up? I am not so sure the FM50 can be used on ACORN because it appears that its inputs need a voltage SOURCED to them.
I would be curious if taking a wire from pin 10 and touching FWD withOUT a 12 or 24VDC power supply to see if it will turn the VFD on.
IF NOT

I could see making it work by using the 6channel relay board I showed in another video. The mechanical relays would be controlled by Acorn, the relays are the switches from 12VDC supplied by the VFD to FWD and REV. Does this make sense to you? You would have one relay for FWD, one relay for REV and one for RST (reset) but it should be doable.

No Marty, I have not even tried. I didn’t want to fry the vid or the acorn board

It does take 0-10VDC input, move the jumper.

I would take a jumper from COM (PIN 10, not 12V) and touch to FWD and see if the VFD turns on the motor.
If not, you will have to use NO relays (6channel relay board with 24VDC coils) and use those contacts to supply the 12V to the FWD and REV inputs of the VFD. I think its doable. What size VFD and what kind of spindle are you trying to control.

I think I follow you Marty. My tri-power supply has 12v already on it.

Is this the item you are referring to?

Yes. It will allow ACORN outputs to drive 6 more dry contact relays beside the two that are on board.
You feed +24VDC to the Com+ terminal (picture is wrong in the ad) then from 1-6 wire to Acorn outputs 3-8
You would then use the 12V FROM the VFD to the Common of one relay and then the NO would go to FWD of that same relay. The a second relay in similar manner for REV and anothe relay for Reset (per Acorn schematics output 4+fwd, output 5= rev, output 6=reset)

I can chicken scratch up a schematic if needed? Or better yet, you draw it up and post it and let us take a peek at it.

Looks good. You are using Acorn outputs to drive dry contacts on relays that control the VFD inputs. Have you tested it yet?
Reminder to move the SW1 to position 2-3 for the 0-10VDC analog input.
