Milton,

What size wire are you running from the Acorn to the VFD? How long is the run, in feet? You have one of two things most likely going on in your setup. If the Acorn and VFD are separated by 10' of cable you need to make sure you have cable that can carry enough current. I actually hooked my unit up with 28 AWG wire and while it would turn the spindle on/off and reverse the motor, the frequency was moving up and down. I swapped out the cable went to 20 AWG and then doubled up two wires for Analog Out and two wires for Analog ground and then the spindle RPM stayed steady.

The second issue is a setting in the VFD. The VFD can be programmed for voltage input and current input. It can also be controlled over various ranges. I will have to pull up you manual in the other post and look at the VFD manual again. You actually might have both of these items impacting you. I can assure you this can be sorted out so take a deep breath a cup of coffee and go page by page on the VFD manual again. I will also take a look later this morning and see if I can spot you issue.

It looks like you need to wire your system as shown in fig 4.1 on page 14:

You may need to tie the VFD COM to the Acorn COM.

Scott,
You are correct, I sent him the diagram a few days ago details these connections.

Where this thread is headed may be confusing to some. I'm Milton & my silly spindle speed stuff was resolved by the simple correction of my own silly faux pas.

Midy's difficulty with his VFD hookup might be better documented in a separate thread with his VFD type mentioned in the thread title for future reference by otherS. If the moderators want to shuffle things around a bit it'd be cool by me. :)

Thanks everyone once again. Well i'm going to rewire the VFD control wire as i'm pretty sure from what your saying Russ is it's possibly too small. I've also got them running through a plug and socket so ditch the plug and socket for now and rewire. The voltage and current selection is done with jumpers but they are very poorly documented - I beleive they are on the correct setting though (not 100%!)

Scott - that confirms how Russ advised me to wire it, cheers. Hopefully the wire is too small and that sorts it....couple of hours and we'll see....

Dickeybird,
You are correct, did not catch that this was someone else's issue, they should have posted in a different thread. LOL

Russ - thanks a lot, you were right on the money. The wires were too small/long. Upped the 2 analog wires to 3mm diameter and the others to 2mm and works perfectly. (I think) Now to take everything to bits and put it all together properly. Clip here:

Thanks again to Russ and Scott for helping out, so quickly too!
cheers

midy,

Glad to help. I ran into this same exact issue on my setup, so I was pretty sure you had the same issue on wire size.

You video was removed?
