They have nema 56 size frames in ClearPath units. They range from 1hp to 3hp power and are 2500 rpm. Or am I missing something?

Good for replacement motors driving spindles(NEMA 56 is a standard motor frame) and for spindle positioning like a C axis on a lathe but not for driving an axis.
Further, many standard AC motors are rated at above 3400 RPM and even higher on some machines with AC Spindle motors and Drives.
You would have to change pulley ratios accordingly, they may do well? Pricey though....

For axis motors, I noted that its not until you get into the more expensive SDHP models that you get motors with higher constant torque ratings with higher spindle speeds. Something necessary for high rapids for machines like routers.

DMM has AC servos that have a pretty constant curve throughout their RPM range with higher torque ratings at higher speeds.

This whole thing makes for interesting conversation.

I am curious why you say they would not be good for driving an axis? 2500 rpm with 3hp.

They are physically large motors. Look up NEMA 56 frame dimensions. You could use them, but it migh be a bit of a challenge to mount those physically large motors.

OK, I see your point. But I am from Texas so the motors aren't that big!

Might work well on a TEXAS size machine!
