x1, x10, x100 question

Post by ScotY » Sun Dec 03, 2017 9:01 pm

On my setup, the x1, x10, and x100 step increments don’t move the amount specified in the manual. I believe x1 should move 0.0001” but it seems I get more than that. I’m not at home at the moment so don’t have any specifics but I want to say my x1 moves about 0.001” or so...and it’s not exact for every increment. I’m assuming this is because of averaging based on the steps/inch of my machine? I’m using 800 step Clearpath motors and I forget what the ballscrew pitch is at the moment. Insight appreciated.

Thanks!

the default x1 incremental move for Acorn is .001" . you can change it to what ever value you like.
look in the operator manual on page 14-21, parameter #40.
its not based on steps. the parameter is based in inches or mm.
.0001" is very small movement for a diy machine with lead screws, you will likely not see much movement when using incremental unless your machine has ballscrews and low backlash.
so for leadscrew machine .001" is recommended
for ballscrew machine .0001" is recommended for x1 basic jog incremental value

Hi Keith,
Okay, that makes sense. I believe the manual (which I guess isn’t specific to Acorn) said 0.0001” was the default for x1. I want to say the increments aren’t quite exact though and I mean what’s displayed on the DRO, not taking into account the actual machine motion. I’ll check it out tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help...it’s much appreciated!

yeah. the cnc11 manual is aimed at machines that have ball screws. but it does explain how the basic jog increment parameter works.
if your machine is not moving the specified amount then most likely the "overall turns ratio" is not set correctly. please post a report.
