Re: DMM AC servo spindle and C axis. Parts ordered!
I already have a 1.8kw Dmm servo running as a spindle ,i am just converting from the masso to the Acorn ,i run it 1;1 motor to spindle with a timing belt.
There is a limitation on the bottom end of 100 rpm minimum other wise i can hog steel no problem i have not been able to get top speed above 1850 rpm.
And to get that you will have to run the drive on 240 volt with a line transformer to protect the drive from over voltage and then run a regenerative resistor on the drive.
I am looking forward to seeing how you come out on the C axis thing i would like to try itto when you get something going.

I would love to see a picture of your set-up.woffler wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 11:45 pm I already have a 1.8kw Dmm servo running as a spindle ,i am just converting from the masso to the Acorn ,i run it 1;1 motor to spindle with a timing belt.

The 1.8kW servo is technically only rated to 1500RPM, so if you actually get 1850 you're doing okay.

Re: DMM AC servo spindle and C axis. Parts ordered!
Here is a picture ,i can send you a better one if you Pm me with Your Email, everything is mounted on a old tooling plate that i had, BIG HEAT SINK.
And it has a polycarb clear case that fits over it all .
At the top left is the voltage transformer bottom left resistor for braking ,and two solid state relays wired in, to control the 220 volt power on off circuit
As well as a switch mounted on the lathe to disable power to the spindle when using a indicator to spin by hand ,that way your not spinning the motor
with the power on.
There is a noise reducer on the input for the control transformer in the servo drive as well as two in line 1 amp quick blow fuses.
I am still waiting on my Acorn since the 3 rd who knows when it will ship.

Tis is what i used on the Masso for spindle and forward reverse it might help you with the wiring.

Any way that drawing i posted is proven and does work , i do not see any reason why it would not work for the Acorn ,if so somebody chime in .
The only thing else i can tell you is about tuning ,when you get there let me know and i will lend a hand .
I would worry about C drive later and i would not be bench testing that motor unless you have it tied down with something very sturdy or it will be on the floor ,LOL .
It has a lot of torque and they do tend to jump around when tuning ,i installed that big one in the Lathe first and then tuned it.
