Can the VCP be Modified?

Post by Gary Campbell »

The more I use my Acorn system, the more I think it would be a good fit for a new line of control boxes for router table retrofit or upgrade. I have been doing these with UCCNC, ShopBot and WinCNC. WinCNC is a bit pricey for the non commercial DIY crowd, UCCNC is too much like Mach for my tastes and ShopBot is a tech support nightmare.

The only issue I can see is that Centroid Mill software is obviously made for mills, not routers. Granted axis orientation is the same, most of the code and actions are the same, but the terminology is different. Of course there are a number of macros that differ and they would have to be attended to, but my questions now refers to the VCP section in the picture below. Can the button images be replaced, renamed and/or eliminated?

👍
What Dickeybird said. Its on the "To Do" list.
VCP is new to CNC12. Centroid is aware of the desire to customize the buttons.

Please list the router specific buttons on the vcp that you need and we will make it available.

Keith...
I am surprised and very impressed that this is even being considered. The image below is a best guess of how I would fill the existing button space. More than most users would require, but would allow for a nice machine with a small ATC and auxiliary control. Very few machines would use all the I/O. If I have built in any confusion, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification. I/O as follows:
IP
1: XLO
2: YLO
3: ZHI
4: ZLO (probe) tool measure switch
5: Drawbar sensor
6: VFD Up to speed
7: VFD Stopped

OP:
1: Spindle FWD
2: Tool Eject
3: Dust Foot
4: Cooling Air
5: Aux 1 Laser
6: Aux 2 Dust collection On
7: Aux 3 Vac hold down on
8: Aux 4 Pins Up

Thank you so much for considering this.

I am very interested in converting on of my routers to acorn as well. I have the mill and lathe in the works and the allinonedc done on the big mill.
