Here is a link to some photos for the acorn Lathe conversion I am working on.
I will organize a little better as I get further along.

I have one of those and it is next.
Do you plan on using the turret bidirectionally?
It is just a matter of activating that electromagnet.
I had it working in Mach but rotating one direction and then backing up onto the pawl.

In discussions as to the best way to do that. No fixed decision yet.
Right now The simpler the better.

The easiest way would be to rotate 63 degrees or so and back up against the pawl.
However the Acorn is most likely capable of the control of the electromagnet (it is 24v IIRC) and use the switches in the turret for tool position verification.

Yes, Acorn can do it, use an output to pull the electromagnetic pawl, then rotate as you say. Its a matter of programming the PLC. There are at least 3 if not 4 of us with the same machine....they are popular little buggers and heavy as sin.

KAI you've done a nice job on the conversion so far. Great work!

Just got done installing the AC motor and drive.
I still have to Connect the drive to acorn.
Updated photos are at the bottom of the google photos album.

I ended up mounting the spindle motor underneath as it was bigger then the existing motor and would have made the footprint of the lathe bigger.

Looks good Kai. Maybe you'll have the spindle under Acorn control soon.

...and don't forget the KBSI-240D isolator board between the Acorn & your KBPC-240D. We don't need any sudden releasing of the magic smoke!

He went with an AC motor and VFD
