Limit switches thru MX3660 or Acorn?

Post by Fastest1 »

I am doing the typical DeMaching as most are.
My G0704 was operating via the MX3660 with all limits, homing and the like fully operational.

Could the use of an Acorn be as simple as changing the DB25, from the Mach PC to the Acorn board?

I have established communication with the Acorn just fine during the set up. I seem to be able to change settings, flash them (if that is the proper term) and see the effects upon rebooting the software and acorn.

Atm I am not seeing any faults on my drive. I have all of my limits set to unused til motion is observed.
Will my limit home switches work just fine left connected to the MX3660 instead of the Acorn?

They should work just fine as long as the MX3660 is opening and closing the inputs on the DB25 pins 10-13 & pin 15

I would think it would be just that simple On mine I ran my limits to the Acorn and just using the mx3660 to just drive the steppers but did wire the Estop to both the Acorn and MX3660

Motion issue? Did I miss something?

If you are having trouble with motion, use the Wizard to select benchtest mode. It will ignore driveok and limits etc..

Now to solve the motion issue.
Post screen shots of your Wizard pages.

Yes, the DB25 can be plugged right into Acorn if your drive's DB25 matches that of the Gecko G540.

Need more details to help you out.....machine type, travels
Did you get axis movement yet?

Marty

So far all I have been able to do in bench mode is identify my Estop. The acorn does respond when my physical estop is pressed.
This is input 5 in the wizard (NC).

The MX3660 uses pins 2-7 for step and direction, so it would seem similar to the G540. I have the 3 axis enabled, step and direction are both checked.

If the pins equal the G540 and all your connections are on your Leadshine,
Try selecting G540 Legacy and see if that works in the Wizard.

You know about the diagnostic screen right? Press Alt-I to toggle it on and off from the main CNC12 screen. You can watch/test your inputs and the outputs from there.

Do you have the charge pump enabled on the mx3660? If so, it's not going to work under bench test. You will need to define output 3 as a charge pump or disable the charge pump on the mx3660.

Are the motors holding position?

I had disabled the charge pump requirement of the MX3660 prior to any testing. I will use it once all is up and running well.

I did get motion today using the G540 legacy profile. I will have to RTFM to figure out how to manipulate a custom profile.

I am not having any luck with my limit switches, though i am not sure why. I am using SUNX GL-12F's (12-24V NPN, though they worked on 5v too). I need to test them. I have been doing a bit of rewiring prior to this change.
