I have autocad and solidworks at my disposal, but neither work well for schematics and wiring.

Thanks Keith.cnckeith wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 12:31 pm Clay,
Hello. We use DraftSight
https://www.3ds.com/products-services/d ... -download/
Do you use any plug ins? I have draftsight as well and it seems very cumbersome too.
Keeping in mind my background is in mechanical engineering. I do electrical drawings only when necessary.

I'm with you Clay! If their CAD guy does those beautiful schematics with a straight-up CAD program, he's a miracle worker!

Re: What CAD program for wiring are you using?
we don't use any plug ins.
i suggests to start with the .dwg version of the Acorn schematics and you can use the existing elements to create your own custom schematic.
that way you will not be starting from scratch.

Re: What CAD program for wiring are you using?
Thanks Keith. That's the way I am doing. I have all the components drawn / copied in, but connecting the wires with the bumps for jumping over other wires is a pita. That's why I asked. I am sure there is some method to this, but I can't find a way.
If you guy's are drawing each wire I commend you. I don't have the time nor patience. Lol

Re: What CAD program for wiring are you using?
Its been awhile but Microsoft Visio did a fair job of doing schematics. In fact you could import a photo of the part and draw the wiring in.frijoli wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2017 11:53 amThanks Keith. Re: What CAD program for wiring are you using?
Thanks Marty, I played with visio yesterday and connecting the wires is definitely much easier. It automatically jumps over when crossing wires and you just connect point to point. It draws the wires in right angles.martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2017 10:14 pmIts been awhile but Microsoft Visio did a fair job of doing schematics. However the import dxf/dwg is sketchy at best. The text imports very large or very small, or very wide.
importing pictures works but doesn't look professional. I think if I can get the dxf import to work cleanly, visio is the way to go.
Currently I'm using AutoCad. I will play with visio again this weekend.

Re: What CAD program for wiring are you using?
It might be better to import the .jpg image of Acorn and start from scratch. Let us know how you make out. You might kick me behind into relearning Visio.
