A few weeks ago, I wrote an Acorn PLC program for an 8 position electric turret that I'll dig up and post along with a quick writeup.

Hi PLCData
There are a lot of us out here with Emco 55's that would be interested in anything to do with upgrading them especially how to hook up the ATC's and original VFD. Please post your progress.

PLData,

Scott is working on adding basic turret setups into the wizard at the moment.
currently you can set up atc turrets manually by editing and writing the PLC code for the turret and setting up some parameters...and while we started to write up instructions on how to do that...it was almost easier to just add the capability for the wizard to auto PLC program and configure the parameters for several common types of ATC lathe turrets which would make it pretty simple to get atc turret functionality going for non plc programming users. Scott's estimate on a beta for this new wizard feature is about a week from now.

in the meantime i suggest you document how your particular turret works. start with make, model, post some photos and most importantly a description of the sensor logic functionality. and do you have a schematic of the turret logic sensors that you can post? basically full information to describe the turret and how it works. then we can begin to setup Acorn/CNC12 to match.

Hi,

Information on the EMCO Lathe 55 ATC:

The ATC diagram is on page 21 off the add PDF file.
12V DC motor + encoder board.

-X1 pin 1 +12V supply, is supply from PDF Page 10 (WZ) the 12V is on after machine power ON is e-stop is ok.
-X1 pin 2 GND

This men at the motor is turning the turn table in to the mechanical stop and lock the tool in please.
On the ATC board is mounted sum resisters in serial to the 12V DC motor to minimize the motor current and not burn the motor off.
On Tool change the motor DC polarity + - is switch bye a relay and the resisters in serial is switch out to.
The DC motor is turning the tool changer as long the PLC is keeping the relay on.
When the PLC have counted (by the encoder index + pulse) to the selected tool number is turn the relay off and the DC motor switch back and move the tool changer to lock position.
The relay shift is only don by one PLC output, ingenious 

I hope my explaining help to better understand the EMCO ATC function.
