Techno-Isel Router Acorn Upgrade

Post by 762x51 »

Finally got time to start the Acorn installation into my Techno-Isel router and here are some photo of the progress to date:

Here is the original controller and the mounting area after it was removed:

After removing the original controller I designed the Acorn mounting using Alibre Design:

Here is where I'm at now and I'll probably finish the wiring this evening and start testing tomorrow.

Looks great!
Are you going to use the original power supply for the motors?

No

The large power supply in the photo is a Mean Well LRS-350-24 that will supply 24 VDC for the stepper motors. The smaller supply is a Mean Well RD-35B which will supply 24 VDC for the ACORN logic and 5 VDC for the stepper driver control.

What was the large toroidal supply in the early photo?

Was that toroidal power supply not suitable to reuse? What kind of voltages did it provide?
I like them over switchers if they can do the job.
Looking good so far. I'd like to buy/build a router/plasma table...some day!

Was that toroidal power supply not suitable to reuse? Not a simple re-use - Would have to be completely modified as a lot of the electronics were on the main controllers circuit board. Because of the value of the Isel controller it was a better decision to leave it intact and list it on eBay.

What kind of voltages did it provide? 24 VDC

I like them over switchers if they can do the job. Switchers work fine for low current motors.
