Emcoturn 120 lathe short video

Post by martyscncgarage »

Here is my Emcoturn 120 lathe doing a quickie part. It's a pawn. It has the encoder wired so if you listen to the RPM, you'll hear C.S.S. (constant surface speed) working.
Currently the lathe is equipped with a 5hp Lesson 3 phase motor, a Huan Yang VFD, Geckodrive G540 and a pair of steppers running open loop. The encoder is a 2000 line encoder running at 8000 counts per rev. Steppers will be upgraded soon. I quickly put it together to aide with Beta testing lathe. Be nice, I have really not run a CNC lathe! 😁

Pretty cool Marty!

You can definately hear the spindle motor speed up as the diameter gets smaller.

How do you like the huan yang vfd?

I've been thinking about getting a vfd with a little more capacity If I decide to up size the motor on my bridgeport.

HY VFD is working well so far. Be aware, most do NOT come configured for a braking resistor, but they are available. I contacted the seller and they ordered me one.

The entry with that parting tool looked a little aggressive. Did it touch the part while still traveling in the Z?

It was the pawn part with encoder, its included with your software.
It parted off fine. the diameter at that point should have been .9" my stock was 1.0"
My pawn had a flat top because my needle nose got pinched between the tool and the part.
I have since bought some insert tools for the lathe.

Thank goodness for steppers. :D

DMM AC servos showed up about a week ago. I just got my power supply from Antek for them.
I need to order a rotary disconnect switch so I can start on that project...
