Pro vs Ultimate, MPG questions...

Post by geneb »

While waiting for the parts I ordered from Gary to arrive, I've been doing research on my controller options.

In looking at the Acorn control software, the only difference I can see between the Pro and Ultimate editions of the software are the "Menu Driven Digitization Cycles" category. Is that correct?

Will the Acorn control software work with any of the "generic" wireless (or wired!) MPG pendants, or does it absolutely *require* the Centroid-branded wireless pendant?

Thanks folks!

Acorn works only with Centroid WMPG, and this one is much better than the cheap stuff. It runs with special firmware and receiver for a fast and reliable connection.

PRO ist limited to 2500 points digitizing, Ultimate not.

I know what the differences in the feature are, I wanted to know if that is the /only/ difference.

The WMPG may have "special" firmware, but I strongly suspect the hardware is identical to the $90 version I've got on my desk. ;)

Yes the only difference.

Sender is the same, receiver is not, and from my experience they work much better than the cheap stuff on Linux or Mach.

My POV is they make money with selling things, but we as customers on the other side are pleased with free updates in short time and have not to go on with outdated software ;)

I suspect the performance gain is due entirely to having a proper antenna attached. ;)

Thanks Uwe.

No, its not the only difference. Although you can calculate CSR with the Pro licence, I believe you will need the Ultimate licence to automatically use that in machining your parts.
Hope this helps

Thanks Nigel. CSR (had to look that up! :D ) won't bring anything to the table with my ShopBot.

Pro has same CSR as ultimate. Ultimate adds scale feedback, unlimited digitizing, and lathe C axis,.

I think the first thing you should add is a signing certificate to the installer. ;)
