Machine parameter for Linear encoder input

Post by Measurement10 »

Id like to use a linear encoder scale to measure my ballscrew and compensate, its an Aikron AKM1 (5v RS422). Theoretically i should be able to connect it directly to the Acorn's encoder input since it has the necessary wiring. However i need to find the machine parameter that sets the Acorn's encoder readout to LINEAR instead of rotary/RPM. Centroid can you advise?

Pinout from Aikron is not the same as Centroid encoder port, you must rewire the Aikron DB9 plug.

Parameter for scales are in the manual, to define an axis as linear or rotary is done in the wizard.

Good point about the DB9. Will be sure to verify.

Im having difficulty finding the exact parameter in the manual, there are many options related to scales. Any chance you could you point me in the right direction?

Set up the scale in machine setup and use #423 to display the scale position on the DRO.

With Arcorn 6 you can set up scales in the Wizard.

The AIKRON Model:AKM1 Has been Tested at Centroid.

The Signal Type Needs to be the 5v RS422

I've attached a snip of the DB9 connector of the Aikron and the Changes needed to match the Centroid DB9 Encoder Port.

AKS is the slim type, pinout is the same as AKM, I have AKS on my machine. Order them with RS422 and they are ok for Acorn6.

Ditron RS422 works also.

Thanks for the drawing, printed out an replaced my shitty pencil sketch :D

Does anyone know the encoder counts for this scale (AIKRON AKM-1)? I put 5000 and it seems to work but want to be absolutely sure before i start mapping, AIKRON isn't too responsive...

For a scale with 0.001mm resolution 1000/mm

scales are measured in mm per pulse, acorn needs pulses per inch/mm. The formula for inches is 25.4/Resolution in mm. in the case of the akm1 it would be 25.4/.001=25400. A formula for Metric would be 1/Resolution in mm. in the case of the akm1 1/.001 = 1000. Using an incorrect number will work on the bench, but if you compare the movement to a scale or test indicator it will not align with the DRO.
