RE: Circus Wiring and Trying to Get Rid of the Knock
Hello,
I will get the updated file needed for people to debug my current issue. In the meantime, I have created an album of wiring that I call circus wiring...
I am still in a testing phase now.
Everything seems to be plugged in and working except for the Homing issue and a Knocking sound coming from what I guess is the motors...
Seth
P.S. Here is the album on google: https://photos.app.goo.gl/J8t6CoWKgTyE9yHJ8 .
It is just three photos showing how illegitimate my wiring schema is for now. Also...I made a short clip to allow viewers to hear the knock. Any help is appreciated.
I panicked and turned off the machine before any damage was caused.

hello. what is the make model of axis motors and drives you are using and do you have link to users manuals for them?

https://www.geckodrive.com/support/g251x-rev-9-manual/ are the drives I am using...
The motors are stepper motors called NN-Motor. I am researching their motors now and trying to find additional data without any luck.

Re: RE: Circus Wiring and Trying to Get Rid of the Knock
So cnckeith,
I think I have encompassed the issue at hand. The 24v PSU output on the laser is not for motors at all. It is for powering a controller board. I will test the PSU I have on hand, i.e. not the laser PSU. I will return service once I have connected the new 24v PSU to the Gecko Drives for supporting the motors.
I need to get into the software side of things more with the Acorn CNC too. I need to set up a 20" * 12" frame on the build within CNC12.

Re: RE: Circus Wiring and Trying to Get Rid of the Knock
I don't know anything about Gecko drives but with other stepper drives I used in my past life I always used the highest allowable voltage power supply that the drive can take with just a tiny bit of headroom. This will give you the best torque and speed from the motors. If it's a48 volt drive and you supply it with 24 volts you are leaving A LOT of motor on the proverbial table.

Re: RE: Circus Wiring and Trying to Get Rid of the Knock
Thank you for the advice. I will take that into consideration.
...
I am backtracking some now. I will set up the CNC12 version to handle some particulars that I think I overlooked.
Seth
P.S. I will attempt this backtrack soon and report my findings.

Also...the motors are rated for 24v maximum. So, I am sticking with the 24v max. on the drivers. I am still reading about the motors (no clue as of now why they chose these since I cannot find anything related to them) so I can make a better informed decision on keeping them or scrapping them.
Seth
P.S. Off to test more!

Re: RE: Circus Wiring and Trying to Get Rid of the Knock
Magic smoke...blah.
I tried another PSU with the same 24v supply and something happened this time. The knocking was still around but this time magic smoke came out of the driver. It is probably ruined now. Anyway...
1. I need to find another driver and then get back on it.
2. I think the extra ground to nothing caused the driver to smoke.
3. I have the G251 and not the G251x.
Just some updates on progression here. No big woof...
Seth
P.S. Off to try another route soon.

Re: RE: Circus Wiring and Trying to Get Rid of the Knock
I know this is odd. Now, I know the smoke was a minor defect. But...it still works! Anyway, here is the data I retrieved...
That is my current report for the 20" * 12" base envelope and CNC12 build.
I was thinking that my machine size could be set up in the configuration wizard. I could not find it or find out how to start this build of sizing.
