Reference tool- New heights- Is there a RefTool reset?

Post by countryguy »

:? I know this should be easy-breezy - but I'm trying. Tool height offsets time again!
I am off to my projects next part. Two cutters. diff heights. Do I need to reset the Ref Tool to 0000 first? Put everything to 0's on any tool - F10 and then do it my readings on the Ref tool & new cutters if the REf tool has changed (alright.. been messed up) from my last attempts at this. Thanks gang! your help is REALLY appreciated!~

On a good note- I am making a PERM ref tool and I hope to leave these tools and Ref's in place once I get this right!

You don't need to zero out all the old tool offsets unless you want to. There is no "reset", nor is one needed.

You do need to measure offsets for all the tools you are about to use.

All those offset measurements need to be measured in comparison to the same standard length (reference tool). The reference tool itself, if it is a tool you will use in the job or use for part setup, needs to have a valid offset as well. Since all length offsets are measured in comparison to the reference tool, the correct length offset for the reference tool is 0.0000.

The first step in measuring tools is to set Z Reference, using the reference tool, on whatever surface you are going to use to measure tools.

One common mistake is to try to set your Z axis Part Zero, using a non-zero tool, before you have measured the tool offsets. Measure your tools first, then set Part Zero.

I have done that Marc. Maybe you or the Centroid guys can see what I'm not doing right here:

I have the dolphinCAM Tool change, Clear Plane, and Safe value all set to +2.0" (which I think is part of the issue???)

I have made a ref Tool, measured it, and put in my common 1/4" 5/16" tooling.

I loaded a the part. Setup and did a 0,0,0 for the part.

I have plenty of Z travel both above and below the part.

the 2" Clear, Safe, and TC value is well above the part but not over Z+ travel limits.

I press F8 and get a " Z Axis exceed - Line 11".

If I can solve this- (and understand it ) I think I'm home free.
