vfd drive

Post by littlerapids »

I AM JUST STARTING A RETROFIT OF MY r2e4 BRIDGEPORT I have a 15 hp rotary phase converter running the rest of my shop (manual lathe Kearny trecker mill and what not) would it be advantages to install a vfd drive to run my machine and if so would it be better with a 240 single phase or a 3 phase input

Installing a VFD will also give you exact RPM speed control. Based on the model BP you have, the hp of your spindle motor is around 2-3hp?

Have you measured the voltage on each leg of your RPC? Is it balanced? If not and with only 2-3hp need probably I would not risk using the wild leg on the VFD input as there is no real benefit. In fact it will cost you more per kw as the ideler is running during usage of the RPC.

We converted our R2E4 to single-phase with ease (even BEFORE we bought the Centroid control, when we were still running on the BOSS-9 control). No need to keep that roaring converter going!
