**RESOLVED** :) homing Y errors

Post by yolk »

hi

when i start the machine and press cycle start:
1: Z axis homes correctly
2: X axis homes correctly

3: Y axis moves slowly making bizarre noise.. then it either
- homes without traveling the whole distance to the limit switch (several inches before it even touches the limit switch)
- or it homes without traveling the whole distance, then stating an error (something like there is a difference in the new home to the old - accept Y/N - contact centroid)

before homing i can move the axis
also i can move the axis after homing (then they run faster - why?)

i bought the motors pre-cabled.
there is no slip on the ballscrew and motor - all tightly screwed.

so what can be the causes?
wrongly tuned motors?
do i have to uncouple the y axis motor and turn the ballscrew a bit so it its in a different position?

thanx for narrowing it down for me

best
david

when i do the homing with the homing function - one axis after the other - it works

so i'm clueless why it does not work at the beginning with cycle start

Can you please confirm you are using mac3 or CNC10

If you are using CNC10 or CNC11 following step should be checked

1) Wiring of the Index pulse i.e Z and /Z go in F1(setup)--->F3(config)---->F4(PID) you see the following screen
PID screen1.JPG
Now index pulse should come once in a revolution if it show Z* constantly then you must swap your index pulse wires i.e Z---->/z
and /z--->z

Please Set parameter 148 to 1 will enable fast Jog before homming

dear cnc-global

i'm on a cnc10

you are talking about Z axis, although the homing of my Y axis has quirks..guess it's a mixup

Image

i did go into the PID setup

the axis do NOT show an asterisk * constantly when i move the axis.

if i understand you correctly the asterisk should blink once per revolution.

what i find bizarre is:
when i move my axis, all of them, the asterisk blinks. but not regularly..it seems to skip its beat, although if i move the table at a constant speed it should blink at a constant beat, right?

if you talk about the index pulse wires..are you talking the physical wires on the motor encoder? because i bought the motors new prewired - i'd be shocked if ajax made an error in wiring these.

i'm so close - only the y axis has to home automatically and i'm ready to go, but i'm afraid to do something wrong as i already fried one servo drive once :(

thank you for additional help

Ya i m sorry by mistake i typed Z-axis
IF Motors are prewired then their is no issue for wiring i m 100% sure

ok Now check the Limit switch page
F1(set)--->F3(config)--->F2(Mach)---->F2(Motor)
Limit switch page.JPG
Kindly check the Home Limit switch set properly
Also which direction machine will home M92/y or M91/y

It seems to me your home switch set on zero or any other value of the input that is apparently low

Kindly update

i will check again..although i think i had this covered in my last post.
http://www.ajaxcnc.com/ajaxbb/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=299

i mean if it is wrong why would homing via the homing setup (individual axis) work but not after startup?

it's like the motor crawls in the right direction (-Y) but stops after an inch before even touching the limit switch wich is 5 inches away

homing sequence is

1. M92/Z
2. M26/Z
3. M91/X
4. M26/X
5. M92/Y
6. M26/Y
