Acorn doesn't care about the motor. That's the job of the drive.
Acorn sends step and direction to the drive, so it will work provided you pick the drive/amplifier.

The drives on it are MAE steppers, I cannot find out anywhere if there step and direction. I did remove the end cap from one on the X drive and all it has inside is wiring terminals. Going to look a little deeper.

MAE is made by Ametek.

I did get into the back of the stepper drive. They were two covers back one came off easy, the one in front of that I thought it might come from inside the stepper. I do not like to hammer on things if it dont come apart easy. all it took was a lite strike from the end of the screw driver. The encoder is under that one. it was a HEDS-5605 H12 looks like 400 cycles per revolution. Have no clue what that means.

Everything works except the driver board on the X axis, swapped the wires from Y to X and it works.
So I got to find a driver board for it.

No pictures of the stepper drivers? Any markings on them?
Yes, likely a good Acorn candidate, but need more info on the stepper drivers....

All the boards are made by Centroid, If I could use the steppers and just buy new driver boards I think that would do the trick.

two board photos, one is the driver board (looks to me all three Identical). The other is a board that has the inputs from the encoders on X, Y, Z. and RS232 that goes up to the monitor cabinet.

Hmm, maybe Marc from CNCSNW will chime in. Or perhaps Keith will chime in.
I'm not familiar with Centroid's old controls.....the board with CPU4EJ on it to me looks like the motion control board...just a guess

There is one board I did not take out, all driver boards and the other two are all connected with two ribbon connectors. Both ribbons plug into all the boards. I don't even know if the steppers are AC or DC.

The 0710's are of course DC. They are rated at 7.10A at up to 140VDC

When you follow the motor cables coming into the cabinet, where do they land and up to what board do they go?

Geckodrive manufactures Stepper Drivers that go up to 7.0A, 80VDC
There may be Leadshine clones that can do higher current and voltage.

That's the motors.
The wires come into the cabinet and on top there is a rack that holds all the boards. On the right of it sits the three driver boards. the 4 wires go in the bottom of each driver board where the one photo you see it red, green, black and white.
They all stick out of the cabinet on the bottom so you can connect the wires.
It is the same color wires coming in from the steppers. 4 wires red, green , white and black.
