Re: encoder suitability
That's pretty slick but ouch on the price. Hi Scot - I think I know what you are looking for. I'm working on a solution: Capture.PNG I just put this on my G0765 mini-lathe but I haven't wired up the encoder - I'll do that tomorrow. I'm not sure how smooth the gears will run. This approach w...

Replacing a Potentiometer on a DC Motor Speed Controller
Many of the small machines made in Asia have DC motor controllers with a Potentiometer labeled P1, P2 and P3. See image. P1P2P3.PNG Since the Acorn has a 0-10V analog output, I'm thinking it should be easy to "override" the potentiometer and have the Acorn control spindle speed. Would I si...

What do you think about SchemeIt from DigiKey?
https://www.digikey.com/schemeit/project/
It's free and it seems to work pretty good.

Re: OMRON E6B2-CWZ1X Part 3?
Yep, I pulled the cover off to take a peek at the inside of the encoder. I also got a message from the Ebay seller. See what surprising info I got out of our discussion... https://youtu.be/OI-4-1K2q_A Hi Marty. Question: I'm told that when it comes to spindle encoders, it is possible to have too ma...

Re: OMRON E6B2-CWZ1X Encoder Unboxining and Overview
I only have to find a way to mount the encoder on my machine. I run a small Optimum BF20L mill in the attic. I replaced the origional motor with a Sangmutan BLDC motor, also from China, running very well the last 1.5 years, and I installed a belt drive from desktopprecision. I run the machine in hi...

Re: Grizzly G0678 - 8" x 30" Variable-Speed Vertical Mill CNC Conversion
Hi. You sound like you have some interesting projects going on. I like the idea of the G0678 conversion, but I'd like to use the table as the Z-axis and that does present some challenges. I'm still mulling it all over. I'm also thinking about the G0722. Decisions, decisions...

Franco, did you see this thread about the PM 727? http://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1105&sid=469200d86837ad92e63caf178d12c6b0 Hi. Yes I did. There is so much good information moving back and forth, it's hard for me to keep tabs on it all. Dumb question: Is there a way...

Re: CNC12 for Acorn vs Centroid industrial system software
Thanks Marty - you are in the know. I think people who are used to using Mach3 find it hard to believe that something as good as Centroid CNC12 can be available to the DIY guys. I think they are afraid to make a change.

Re: Grizzly G0678 - 8" x 30" Variable-Speed Vertical Mill CNC Conversion
Thanks Guys - I appreciate your input. Let me tell you how I got on this knee mill kick. I've done a few conversions on bench top style bed mills and I've determined they all suffer from the same weakness: the slot in between the Z-axis dovetails. Capture.JPG The slot allows the ball screw to lift t...

Grizzly G0678 - 8" x 30" Variable-Speed Vertical Mill CNC Conversion
Hi. I'm thinking about doing an Acorn CNC conversion on a 8x30 milling machine. I want something more rigid than a bench top machine and these 8x30 mills appear to be the biggest machines I can still move with my 2-ton engine hoist. I'd appreciate any insights you guys are able to provide. I want to...
