Re: Coil Suppresion?
A typical DC coil "snubber will consist of a diode in parallel with a series-connected resistor and capacitor. There are purpose-made parts that contain all three. One of these is sold by Centroid in their web store. Using those would probably be your best option. Otherwise, Google "coil s...

Re: Setting up tool offsets
What I suspect you're going to find is there are about 2000 different ways to define fixture offsets and tool length offsets. Every person you talk to will have a favorite method that he will swear is the ONLY correct way to do it. Fact is, YOU need to understand the purpose of all the offsets, and ...

Re: A VERY Annoying "Feature" of This Forum...
Well, THAT is bizarre! There was NO "Remember Me" checkbox on the login page! I manually logged myself out, and back in, and it finally showed up! I assume that will solve the problem.

A VERY Annoying "Feature" of This Forum...
Am I the only one that finds this forums behavior annoying? My login times out VERY quickly - far, FAR faster than any forum I've EVER belonged to. And when it does, I have to first refresh the page, so I have a login link to click, then login, then go back DOWN to the Acorn forum, as the login scre...

Re: Acorn & PC Division of Tasks
The little investigating I have done thus far does show that this can be very computationally expensive stuff, and in fact the next big hurdle to speeding the generation of tool paths is parallelization of the problem set. Based on Centroid's single threaded specs for the PC, I suspect they have ye...

Re: Erroneous Torque Nomenclature?
If you're buying sugar at the supermarket, would you rather buy a 5 pound bag, or a 0.00226796 metric ton bag? The answer to that question is exactly the same as the answer to your question.

Re: Acorn & PC Division of Tasks
The moving parts of 3D printers are always VERY light, which means they react quickly, and there are minor issues with vibrations affecting, in any material way, the result. With mills, the moving parts can be VERY heavy. Even many smaller mills have tables weighing several hundred pounds, and can h...

Re: Acorn & PC Division of Tasks
The "why" is very far from simple, and, in many cases, requires a detailed understanding of exactly HOW trajectory planning works, and the complex algorithms required to implement it properly. The size and performance of the machine makes a HUGE difference. You seem to believe that the G-c...

Re: voltage on out puts for spindle fwd rev
The types of connections available are covered in detail in the Acorn specification sheet. There are 5V outputs, 24V outputs, and relay outputs. Which ones you use for each function is up to you.

Re: Acorn & PC Division of Tasks
I am assuming that the G-code is downloaded to the Acorn and then the job runs, with the Acorn providing near real-time feedback for display and manual control via communication with the PC. I would be willing to bet that is NOT correct. Typically on this type of controller the g-code parsing, inte...
