Re: Upgrading Tormach PCNC 770 to Acorn

DOes a Tormach devalupate at the same rate as a Ford or Chevy? -Cars and trucks get devalued mainly because there's an open and obvious odometer, and it's well-recognized that the vehicle will need expensive repairs starting at or around X miles, and secondly because the manufacturer comes out with...

Re: Upgrading Tormach PCNC 770 to Acorn

Has anyone done this or have any thoughts on this type of project? -I've seen quite a few ask about it, but I have yet to see anyone actually try it. The Tormachs, with some exceptions, aren't really old enough to need a major OS transplant just yet, and those that are- the aforementioned ones runn...

Re: Post-4.18 reversed motion?

What does the program look like when you graph it (F8/Graph), with the feedrate override turned down (maybe to between 30% and 50%) so you can watch progress of the yellow and red lines as it runs? -I can check, since I have it set to not show the graph by default, but really, it doesn't get going ...

Re: Post-4.18 reversed motion?

Have you checked your tool offsets? -Just did. Apparently none got carried over, but that's okay, I only had a few set up, and some of those I'd done incorrectly anyway. I've re-set the reference tool (#1) and it's still doing the same thing (starting off in the wrong direction on the test part.) D...

Re: Post-4.18 reversed motion?

Z homes in the positive direction, away from the headstock and x is homing toward the spindle centerline on your machine? -That's correct. It was simply easiest to mount the physical X limit switch that way, and as I have them set to home Z first, then X, I didn't think I'd run into too many collis...

Re: Post-4.18 reversed motion?

Tried the machine again, still doing the same thing: Homes properly (that is, in the correct directions) and jogs properly, but when I try to run the pawn test program, the carriage starts moving in the Z-positive direction, which simply immediately trips out against the limit switch. Here's my curr...

Re: Post-4.18 reversed motion?

Unfortunately the only report I still have on this box is the one from just prior to upgrading to 4.14. Any others I cleared off when starting the upgrade to 4.18 The G-code is the same off-the shelf Pawn program, unmodified, as-supplied. And as noted, I had a rather serious brain-fart and didn't ge...

Re: tool z and x ref and offsets discussion for lathe auto tool touch off

I find I kind of have to agree with Greens on this one, to a certain extent. Speaking personally, while I've been a machinist for over 20 years now, I've only very recently started dipping my toes into the world of CNC. And as such, I have nearly zero background- I know the concepts behind CNC, but ...

Post-4.18 reversed motion?

Converted lathe, 2nd gen Acorn, Leadshine-style drives to closed-loop steppers. Finally got around to updating to 4.18, which, after a little mental flatulence, seems to have been successful. System was working 100% prior to the update, save for some mis-set tool offsets. However, when I actually tr...

Re: J Tech Laser - compatibility question

I'm not at all sure that most home-shop type laser power supplies can vary the power level "on the fly". I may very well be wrong about that, but I was given to understand that there was little reason to try and vary the power during the cut, when it's considerably easier- and more precise...
