Re: Controller-only (not motors/drivers) upgrade for PRS Alpha

Thanks, Gary. I just read that post, and I see your point. However, it seems to me that overall it should be more practical with the 2020 hardware since the motor/driver issues you mentioned have presumably been addressed. You may have missed the line where I stated that the more modern drive (AR) ...

Re: Controller-only (not motors/drivers) upgrade for PRS Alpha

All has been answered here by me, with one small caveat: the 2020 version of drivers (AR versions) will be slightly more difficult to implement as they have even more obscure logic in their programming

Re: Wizard turns/deg limited to 7 characters?

A couple questions before I answer, if I may.... 3.1:1 is not a common reduction ratio, how did you arrive at that number? Your numbers are accurate, but only at full steps, are you running a stepper at full steps? If so, why? And the reason behind my questions is shown in the chart below. Using 1/8...

Re: Older Shopbot desktop build

The power supply is 48V as you remember. 6.7A I believe those Haydon Kerk motors draw 2 amps, so 6.7A on the PS should be good I will look into limit switch upgrades. Should be plenty of choices but if you have a known accurate/reliable recommendation I welcome it. I prefer proximity sensors. I wou...

CNC Depot 4hp 12krpm 4 pole ATC Spindle

Custom ordered in 2021, this 12,000 rpm four pole spindle is designed for milling metal and plastics, it has a drawbar sensor and encoder added as options. Coupled with an 800 htz Hitachi VFD and controlled via sensorless vector control it has great low rpm performance. Unit has 100-120 hours on it,...

Re: Older Shopbot desktop build

Your project is more than doable. I have done a small format drilling machine with that exact combo and would suggest, that since you don't need, and therefore don't need to pay for, all of the IO features on the MX-4660. I would recommend the LeadShine DM-542E at $35 each ($140 total) rather than t...
