Re: Inrush current limiter?
For the price I paid for these, I'm not thinking they have an overvoltage warning but you bring up a good point. I'll read the docs more thoroughly & see if it mentions anything. I didn't see anything on a quick read when I first got them.

Re: It works!
Don't quote me on this, but most times there is a +/- 10% safety factor. You are definitely pushing it. Did you reread the driver manual to see if there was a safety margin? The drivers have heatsinks. If you could put a cooling fan to move air across those heat sinks, that would help the drives li...

It works!
Woo-Hoo, it works like a champ! I was hoping for a little more loss across the rectifier so that the output voltage would be less than 50 but hey, at least it didn't pop the little breaker on the power strip when I pushed the button! So Marty was right, as usual. No inrush current limiting device ne...

Re: Inrush current limiter?
Woo Hoo, it works! Turns out my knowledge re: DC ohms law vs AC ohms law & transformer inductance sucks. The problem was the primary wiring sequence I used was flat wrong. The secondary was correct as built and once some smart people on another forum sorted me out on how to determine which prima...

Re: Inrush current limiter?
Thanks Ray! This needs to output 36V so does that mean the secondary wires should be in parallel or series? Treat me like I'm challenged when it comes to AC circuits because it's true! I know that's dangerous when combined with frugality.

Re: Inrush current limiter?
There's also my lack of knowledge of precision electrical measuring. :( Would I be correct in assuming that the resistance in my meter & leads when the two leads are pressed firmly together at the lowest scale (.3 ohms)should be subtracted from the total resistance of the circuit being tested? I...

Toroid Surgery
Got a little extra time today due to snow/late start time at the day job so I decided to commit mayhem with the toroid. Like mentioned before, the secondary resistance across the red/white was zero. When the insulation was stripped back enough to access the 2 output pairs, they were a dead short unt...

It'll make a great trotline weight.

Re: Inrush current limiter?
Where did you get the toroidal supply? Came with no paperwork? If there is ZERO resistance something is open on the secondary side.....IF indeed you have the output correct. Picture please.... Came from a surplus outlet on the west coast recommended by Jerry Biehler (macona on HSM) & it was NIB.

Re: Inrush current limiter?
Mine has yellow, orange, gray & green. Resistance reading across the yellow/orange pair is 1ohm, gray/green is the same. I tied those pairs together, then the hot to one pair & neutral to the other. Plugged in the juice & no sparks, flames or blown fuse but there's no output. Does it mat...
