I am interested in seeing your linear rail and gib solutios for your lathe. Got pictures or videos you posted?

Mike
Mike, sorry I missed your post asking for a few pictures.

Here are some pictures of my tapered saddle gib solution

Awesome!

I just saw Mikes post where he asked to see pictures of my adjustable tapered saddle gib setup.

I'll post some pictures on his thread and over here if anyone is interested.

Re: Upgrading Tormach PCNC 770 to Acorn

As long as the drives in the Tormach use step and direction I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Or on another thought, you could also upgrade to servos. Such as DMM or Clearpath.

Re: Odd issue. My acorn not moving to commanded distance.

...put it another way, you are chasing your tail here. Being able to resolve 0.0001" on a machine like this has no practical value. Even if you managed to move the table to that accuracy unloaded, I doubt you'd get anywhere near that with a real cut. I suggest you run a few test pieces and see...

Re: Odd issue. My acorn not moving to commanded distance.

Now that this is resolved I wanted to add a couple comments regarding this issue. For this example lets use a steps per rev of 800 (common to steppers and *RLN" Teknic servos and a very typical 5mm pitch ballscrew. 25.4 (mm/in) / 5 = 5.08 turns per inch. With 800 steps per rev and 5.08 turns p...

Re: Odd issue. My acorn not moving to commanded distance.

I would have thought that calculation would have happened "within" the controller and not displayed on the DRO.

Looks like the apex to my learning curve is still getting larger

Odd issue. My acorn not moving to commanded distance.

Hello Centroid, Im running into a small issue while trying to set up ball screw mapping on the Z axis of my bridgeport conversion. I am using the scale in the Elrod Z axis kit to provide feed back and have it ported to the spindle encoder. This is displayed on the control panel as Axis "W"...

CNC 12 Lathe 4.18 Issue with MPG Moving Z Axis During Spindle Speed Adjustment

Hello Centroid and fellow centroid fans. I'm working on my lathe conversion and noticed a weird issue when adjusting the spindle speed via the Wireless MPG and the Z axis on my lathe. If I set the MPG dial to "spindle" and adjust the speed via the hand wheel the Z axis moves at the same ti...
