Step Frequency

I encountered something when testing the leadshine dcs810 drivers to see if they would run the dc servos in my lathe. I connected them up to my version 2 acorn with the terminal connections. After scratching my head for a bit I remembered I had my acorn set to 400kHz so I dropped it to 200kHz and th...

Re: Denford triton pro servo conversion??

Do u have any more info on running a servo as a spindle drive Marty? The spindle motor in my little lathe I’m retrofitting was a 0.5hp dc servo motor. I was planning on putting my spare 0.33hp AC motor but even that will need some trimming of the sheet metal to fit. Being able to reuse the original ...

Re: Hercus PC160 Lathe Project

I have the software for tuning the drive. It’s similar to the ac servo drive except some of the functions u can change in the software on the ac drive like read high/low for enable, direction etc u have to pull the cover and change a jumper or dip switch. The closed loop gain and damping functions a...

Hercus PC160 Lathe Project

Hi, after the sucessful retrofit of my Hercus DTM320 with the acorn and the continual problems with the original control system in the PC160 Lathe i decided to remove all the original control gear and start the retrofit of the acorn. IMG_3390.JPG IMG_3389.JPG IMG_3388.JPG The original control system...

Re: overall turns ratio and encoder line count questions

The high the frequency the move commands the more likely the drive not to register each pulse, due to noise or other issues. You can change the settings from 200kHz to 400kHz in the wizard which should allow u to run faster moves but be careful ur drives don’t start losing steps like mine did. It al...

Re: overall turns ratio and encoder line count questions

Try it again with 10,000 to see if it’s still not repeating. Even at 20,000 and 50ipm (1270mm/min) it’s still only about 85kHz by my calculations. At 200kHz and 10,000ppr the motor will be limited to 1200rpm but 5mm/rev that’s still 6000mm/min (236ipm). You will need to pay very careful attention to...

Re: overall turns ratio and encoder line count questions

Only have x and z axis I’m assuming you are controlling a lathe. The x works off diameter so it will not be a 1:1 scale to your commanded moves.

So it sounds about right then. You command a move of 5mm it will move 2.5mm because that 2.5 is off the radius resulting in 5mm diameter

Re: overall turns ratio and encoder line count questions

Your ppr setting will be 10,000 for a 2500 line encoder however you will probably have the same problem I was having. It’s in my build thread but the back story is: My servos are 10,000ppr and the drives were rated to 600kHz but anything above 200kHz and my servo drives were not capturing all the pu...

Re: Odd things happening

Have you tried it with a g1 of slow feedrate to see if you get the same result? Is it less than 1” or greater than 1”? Is it overshooting or not reaching 1”? How close is the rapids to the max rpm of the steppers (assumption), maybe it’s loosing steps. Try reduce the acceleration time so it’s ramps ...
