Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

Appreciate the clarification, but I'm only running 240v and never separating the poles (no use of 120 throughout the entire box). My monitor and PC PSU are 240v rated for hot/hot/ground as far as I know. Paul, OK, I had asked about that in my first response. You seem to be correctly wired for runni...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

Years ago, when houses just had 2 prong outlets only, 120V used to come in with only 2 wires, hot and return, and 240V was 3 wire - no ground. Many years ago the national electric code changed to require a separate ground return only joined to neutral at the main breaker box or meter box, as tblough...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

The 240V 1ph I know comes in to the house as a 4 wire - 2 hots with 240 between them 180 deg out of phase, one neutral with 120V 1ph between either hot and the neutral, and one gnd. You need a neutral to get 120V from that configuration. If you have a voltmeter and connect it between your red and ba...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

Paul,
Are you planning to run all devices on 240v or 120V? - I don't see a neutral, but the legs are both labeled 110V HOT.

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

Did you get the programming/tuning cable for the Clearpaths? You're going to need it. It's just a USB micro (to USB-A) cable so good news is that you probably have 20 of them in a drawer  yes, but the bad news is the ones in the drawer are all probably too short. You need a good long one to go...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

Your numbers look good. I just ran a spreadsheetfusing 1.25" diameter pinions and a 1:5 gearbox. I was more interested in continuous torque. The 3421S would have about 1,445 oz-in continuous torque with the 1:5 gearbox. That's a little more than the Shopbot advertised PRS Alpha torque. I had a...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

I use 2 3432p, one 3421S and one 3421D between two IPC-5's on my Buddy redo, and have never had a problem. My concern with the unregulated Antec's are that the voltage droops quite quickly as current draw increases (check out the graphs on their website), and I wanted to maintain full voltage near m...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

I think that Teknic's declaration in their IPC-3/5 user manual not to parallel connect their ipc supplies would be an official statement from them. In any case, they should not be hooked together. I went with 2 IPC-5's and 2 hub-4's for belt and suspenders power, regeneration power management, as we...

Re: Shopbot PRS 48x96 Acorn / Clearpath Conversion

Gary, That is correct; however the hub can be connected to two Ipc-5 power supplies and four motors (more if multiple hubs are used). I've made custom cables and I've used stock cables. Crimpers to make good cables are pricey if they are efficient. Of course on a router custom length cables might b...
